I can imagine the smell - I once came back from holiday to find that [STRIKE]someone[/STRIKE] i had left some cooked cabbage in the microwave _pale_ :eek:0 -
Well, i was doing really well with this but have been slipping of late, mainly with my pasta and rice, never seem to know what to do with it as left overs! Especially the pasta, i will make it and add a sauce, the left overs get put in the fridge, but by the next day its all dried out and i don't like cold pasta and no one else will eat it, perhaps this just serves as a reminder to myself not to make so much next time.
Am going to start putting this challenge in my sig and seeing how much food i waste a month and try and cut it down each month. Hopefully this will encourage me to eat up my left overs more and not let food go off, especially what with the credit crises, food's expensive enough as it is!!:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

Unfortunately whilst freezing some portions of it I cleared out a chicken breast to put in the fridge to use this week and then went camping. Unfortunately this morning I found a rather gross chicken breast in a little plastic bag sitting on the counter next to the fridge where it had been for 2 days, needless to say it did not smell good and had to go in the bin. So I probably saved 50p of veg and wasted £1 of chicken. Whoops
I once went on holiday for 10 days and forgot I had left some bread dough rising in the airing cupboard  :eek:I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

I use to make far too much rice and pasta as well.......... trouble is, I used to just eat it!! Not good when you are a singleton with no dog to give it to.
The problem is now solved. I bought a basic set of digital kitchen scales which now live on the work surface and everything is weighed. Weigh the dry rice or pasta before you chuck it in the water and after your meal decide if you had really cooked too much. If so, next time reduce by 10g. until you have it about right. I realise now that my eyes really were bigger than my proverbial!
As the scales zero at the touch of a button, it doesn't matter what you use to weight food in. I weigh breakfast cereal too, just put the bowl on the scales, zero them and weigh the cereal straight in.. This all helps the waistline as well as the pocket.0 -
In June I threw away a soggy carrot and a quarter of a wrinkly green pepper(compost), and two crusts off a loaf that had been in the freezer for ages.
I also only spent £43.67 on groceries! :j
July i will try not to throw anything out at all!!!!

Only half of a cabbage went in the bin at the end of last week, I even managed to keep track on the fruit bowl !! Very pleased.

Just found a tin of peas at the VERY back of the cupboard and found they were best before july 2000! Waste not want not so i heated them up and they were fine, is there any received wisdom on exactly how long tins will last if not rusty or too badly bashed?
Also is it counted as waste if I feed the chooks or dogs with it? It feels like cheating if it was bought for us and I've left it till it was fit only as dog foodTo be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

I'm going to do this tonight, it sounds yummmy and I have left over items to use up
Hope you enjoy it.
Try not to overcook as it can go a little dry and tough. Reheats beautifully in the microwave.
I eat this with some Mrs Balls Chutney on the side.
This batch I made is probably going to last me almost all week!

*quick note*
Please please PLEASE if you have bread going to waste DON'T feed it to the birds - it really is absolutely no good for them! If you absolutely must put it out for them, soak it well in water first - otherwise they can literally choke on it. On the same note - whole peanuts fed from a bird table or on the ground are also a bad idea as again they present a choking hazard - bash them up a bit or feed from a feeder designed for the purpose.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Defrosted the chest freezer and chucked away a pork joint have no idea how long it has been in there.
Also had to throw away some bagels as they would not fit in to my fridge freezer while I defrosting the chest freezer. And as it was 10.30pm I was not going to be eating them the the next day.
Also have turned the chest freezer down as I had too high  Have kept turning it down bit by bit and leave it for a few hours and then go and check the thermometer to see if it is ok.
Just now need to defrost the fridge freezer. But I will bung all that in to the chest freezer.
Next time I will do better honest.
