Oil check/change at fiesta first service?
Hi,
I had my fiesta 1.6 tdci taken for its first service (1 year old/9100m) less than 3 weeks ago. Not cheap, at over £200- as you can imagine, with that mileage, not much needed replacing. At the time i was surprised how quickly they did it- collected it sometime after 9.30, called to say done by 11.15.
Just been out quickly in the car, less than 300 miles after the service, and my oil light has come on.
My question is, for what i paid, should my oil at least have been checked for the level if not more, as part of this service? Frankly i would expect the oil to have been changed/ replaced for that price, but i CANNOT believe that in under 300 miles the level has gone from perfectly fine, if checked, to oil light on. If it is on now, it must have been reading on the low side when they checked it, so being an expensive service, surely they should have thought to mention it and suggest a top up if it wasnt included?
I've looked on ford online, and in my service book, and i cant find a list of what the first service includes to know if they should have done it.
I want to be sure of my facts before ringing them...
And yes, i DO know how to add oil to cars, i've done it many times, but frankly at the price they charge, i dont expect to do it 15 days after it is serviced!

Most Ford dealers 1st service is around £150 - Can you see if the oil on the dipstick is new?0

I'll probably need to wait till my hubby gets back, and get him to check- i'm rather pregant at the mo, and reluctant to be lifting bonnets and leaning over with my bump!
I thought it was rather pricey when they rang for payment- Dagenham motors in staines. I would usually ask the price beforehand, but baby brain here forgot to. I have used them before, and their prices were similar to other places, so i guess i took it for granted this time. Grrrr.
Scouting around on various links, i found a link to ford ETIS, which for 2008 on TDCI says
"Refill engine oil: oil and filter change is recommended every 10.000 miles for Stage IV engines only, in case the vehicle is used under one or more of the following conditions - see below:"
Which would suggest to me they should have done it..Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Maybe the sensor is faulty and it doesn't really need more oil.
Maybe you have an oil leak.
I've never had a car that new, but I'd certainly expect an oil change at every annual service.0 -
Hi, Thanks.
I just gave them a call... they said yes, there should/would have been a full flush and change. They have said it is either a sensor problem (needs resetting) in which case when Hubby checks, oil level should be fine, or there is a problem which has caused the oil to disappear magically. ( there are no oil stains where gets parked). Either way, needs a trip down there to be checked. Cunningly out of warranty now huh. If it is a problem, ill be arguing it was fine for the previous 12 months, so the problem was caused during the service, which was in the warranty period.
Or they just didnt do it to start with...Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Where's your receipt/invoice for the service. It should specify what that service entailed, and I'd be surprised if it didn't include an oil service.0

I'm not sure if it is actually three years old. The OP mentions 2008 in a subsequent post.Kira000 wrote:Scouting around on various links, i found a link to ford ETIS, which for 2008 on TDCI says

Surprising that someone would buy a new car and not know the warranty period.0 -
It IS a 10 reg. Bought new. I was told by Ford, at purchase, the warranty was 1 year. Same as my previous new fiesta.
The mention of the 2008, was referring to the fact that the new model of fiesta is 2008 onwards. Hence the ETIS being for 2008+.
Reading the Ford blurb, it IS one year unlimited mileage. The further 2 years that you seem to be referring to are subject to mileage.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
