It must be awful to see your children stressing over exams like that. My DD (8) had her SAT's in May but the school made them into "quizzes" instead of exams so the whole class were excited to be doing quizzes. Shame you can't keep that going all the way up to take the pressure off a bit. Good luck to all taking exams (and their parents too)
    Goals for February

Hope your school does not refer to them as SATS Starnac!!! SATs were phased out in Wales in 2005. And then Wales got all iffy over PISA and reintroduced national testing...........a 'SAT by any other name' of course but they shouldnt be referring to them as SATs ;) Whatever they are called they are all wrong IMO. Good teachers hate them and dont need them but we are all target driven........nothing truer than the saying 'you cant fatten a pig by weighing it'

I remember going to a parent information day when they were first introduced (my sons are now 26 to 31 years). The teachers outlined what would happen, explained some of their concerns - eg throwing and catching a ball and the co-ordination involved is something that happens over a wide age range. Some children do it early, some late (a bit like the changes in puberty). So unfair to include it as a measurement, as though it were a fixed stage.

Some classes had done introductory version the year before (to set levels, test questions). One little boy had been asked what he had been doing at school and replied "working for the government all day".

Love it..thats such a brilliant line...."working for the government all day"....that one is a keeper :)

There is definitely a lot in the idea of students grasping subjects at different stages of life..rather than a fixed point in a year (particularly when some in that year will be almost a year older (or younger) than some of their peers)...and of wildly different experiences - some of which will hinder the purely academic stuff. My youngest definitely cottoned onto reading later..but reads fine now. That wasn't a great way for her to be in Y6 though when her self esteem suffered and she got quite panicky (as Ig says the English system gets SATs obsessed..)

Not looking forward to GCSEs as have a feeling it will go the same way for her..

Hope the sun continues to shine Ig... am so enjoying the garden..hope you are too
