Oh - sorry for the delay, I've been recovering, it's very tiring being calm and reassuring!

    Definite offers:
Salford (Contemporary Military and International History)
    Worcester (History and Politics)

Waiting to hear back in the morning from:
    Swansea (War and Society)
    Glamorgan (History)

Worcester say they have absolutely no accommodation available, so that's a bit off-putting. They have given DS3 until Sat lunchtime to reply, so that is decision cut off time for him, I think.
Salford - not terribly salubrious:p - could be a shock to the system of an not-at-all-streetwise Oxfordshire boy, haha!
DS3 has visited Worcester and Swansea, so if Glamorgan offer him a place we'll make a lightning visit tomorrow (4 hour round trip) for him to have a look before he makes his final decision.

    Any input welcome!

Heard for certain this evening that youngest didn't get first choice for History(1 grade out) has been offered insurance choice which I guess in todays climate isn't so bad..............
Don't know if it is going to be taken up yet, fair possibility not!
Heart was so set on first choice :(

I live near Glamorgan and tbh if I had the choice between Swansea and Glamorgan then I would choose Swansea. Glamorgan (bless its cotton socks) is in the middle of a south wales valley (some would say the middle of nowwhere :rotfl:)and whilst I will fight to the death defending the south wales valleys, it can be very depressing - even for a native.

Also, and I know this sounds snobbish and I don't mean it to be, but I think a degree from Swansea would be seen in a better light than from Glamorgan

Would it be worth him ring the uni to see if they would accept him anyway - that seemed to be the advice being given by the experts - and I must admit it worked for Junior (though having said that it was his insurance place that accepted him not his 1st choice)

  • Forgot to add if he thinks Salford isn't very salubrious then he won't think much of Glamorgan !

(tbh I would save your petrol / bridge toll / time and just plump for Swansea!)

DS1 was a grade out but his 1st choice still accepted him. It's gotta be worth a call, nothing lost. :)

Okaaaaay - not sure how to tell you this:rotfl:

We went over to the Treforest campus at Glamorgan, had a good mooch about, spoke to a fair few very pleasant staff, and - he liked it! It has been a beautifully sunny day which may well have coloured his view :p Then we got home to a decline from Swansea and an offer from Glamorgan and he has decided to accept - he likes the course content better than the one at Worcester, he says. (Didn't mention Salford...)

    I am completely exhausted, lol!

Ha, well congrats! You enjoy it as much as you put in anyway, so as long as he works hard, parties hard, he'll have a great time and meet some great people.

Friend of mine went to Glamorgan, and I've been around there a few times. Minus the huge hill to accomodation, it seems nice. Was a nice tapas bar nearby too if I remember.
