I particularly like the most annoying music on hold you've ever heard - ideal for double glazing cold callers.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Is it legal for BT to fine people £4.50 per quarter for paying promptly by cheque through a bank? If it is legal payment in full by or before the due date, what is the £4.50 for? If I refused to pay the £4.50, what would be my legal position?0

get any discount on the bill for paying by DD and have to pay the full increase.
If you read the BT leaflet, it states that Light User Scheme/In-Contact Plus customers are exempt from the payment processing fee.

1. Yes, its legal
2. Its not a fine
3. If you don't currently pay my direct debit or monthly payment plan, you already pay £1/month more than other other customers. BT are increasing this by 50p/month
4. Legal position for not paying: non existent..

From 1/5/07, that £11/month 'discounted' price becomes the standard price - but those not paying by DD will be charged £1.50/month extra (i.e. £12.50/month). So, the discount ceases to be available but those not paying by DD pay extra (i.e. that part of the change is really a question of semantics).
As those not paying by DD do not currently receive the £1/month discount and are already paying £12/month, the increase is actually 50p/month (£1.50/quarter or £6 per annum).
So, the 1/5/07 increase is 50p/month (actually, that amounts to about a 4% increase in line rental if you want to look at it that way). Have you been refusing to pay the £1/month (£3/quarter) which, as explained above, is currently the difference between DD and other methods of payment?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. i pay the bill by dd every month but i also use my payment card (paypoint) to make odd payments throughout the month, thiks shows as a credit and my dd is then reduced.. will i be charged for doing this?
i usually try to put £5 per week on the card as it brings the bill down to about £15...
if i wont get charged then cant we get round it by signing up for dd but making interm payments to keep the dd down????
sorry if this isnt right:beer: :j OFFICIAL DFW NERD NO 159 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS:beer: :j

hi
Just got my bill today
it says on the update letter that from 01/03/07 that customers who do not make any chargable calls will have to pay for 1571
Is this fair to only give five days notice of this change? I have my calls through talktalk and line rental with BT, I would resent being charged for this 1571 service if I didnt have time to cancel it (eg on holiday)
Also in the 1st paragraph it says that "we are also introducing an administration charge of £5.00 for all customers whe cease service with BT"
Is this literally for all customers no matter how long they have had a contract, ie have been with BT for 5yrs+, will they still charge me £5 to leave and move line rental to someone else and is this start date 1/5/07?
thanks
