Evening All
Just to ket you all no really.. had a bill from BT today with 'Extra costs included' ..Bou £4ish i think.. so i thought it was a bit strange as i only pay my line rental to them and its normally a set amout each quarter..
Got on the blower and was told BT now charge for CLI if you dont have your calls with them
I wasnt aware of this..this lay said it was a new thing and letters had been sent to everyone..
Its about £5 per quarter i think she said.. i cancelled mine as trying to cut back on things.
Just a warning..
If anyone does know a work around on how to get CLI free then please let me know..
Hope this helps someone if they weren't aware of it like me!!

They are now charging for Caller line identifier... if you dont have your calls with them.. another £4ish a quarter...
so thats £9 more a quarter if you had that and didnt pay by direct debit!0 -
1571 will cost £1 a month if you dont put 2 chargeable calls a month , or six chargeable calls a quarter via BT.
(Same rules now as free caller display.)
Since October you need to put 2 calls a month through BT via 1280 to keep free caller display.0 -

That won't result in totally free CLI - but 11p/month (2 evening or weekend UK 01/02 calls) is not far off!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Aren't the bills now paid through Paypoint, even if you are at the post office? Their site states "PayPoint agents earn variable commission rates from 0.5% to 40% per transaction." Not a set fee.
That's what BT tell staff, shortly the software staff use will have a popup for people who pay via the post office so staff can promote DD or Pay point on every call (Could get annoying for the customer).
Perhaps the £13.82 is an average, our bulletins simply say to not proactively offer post office as a payment method as thats the cost to BT. I'll see if I can find more info on that.0 -
That's interesting, I had noticed that Post Office is no longer mentioned on the bills. I was told that the payment the actual branch receives is pennies per bill, that's second hand though, not from the post office themselves. You wonder, if that is true, where the extra money goes?
The other thing confusing me is the difference between paypoint and what you do at the post office, I'm sure the post office advertise paypoint, but are not on the list of outlets, and can't do TV licences like other paypoints.0 -
I must be the lucky one, not paying for caller display and made no chargable calls in December!
Have i slipped through the net?

If you are stuck with having to use BT (even if only for line rental) you may not be aware of this but, from May 2007, if you don't pay your BT bill by Direct Debit, they will hit you with a quarterly charge of £4.50 (or a monthly charge of £1.50 if you are billed monthly).
It seems notice of this charge was buried in the recent issue of the BT "Update" leaflet. I didn't know about this until I saw it in http://www.maturetimes.co.uk/node/1763
BT does offer a discount of £3 per quarter for paying by DD - but double-check to make sure you get the discount if you do sign up to their DD scheme.0 -

Your bill will actually increase by 50p month as BT already charge £1/month extra if you don't pay by direct debit/monthly payment plan and they have done for many years .0 -
I thought the non-DD line rental increase from 1/5/07 was going to be 50p/month - to £12.50/month, not £1.50/month - to £13.50Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
