  • I would really appreciate some advice. My partner has one 9 year old daughter from a previous relationship. My partner is on Job Seekers Allowance and his Ex is a single parent with 4 children aged under 16. She lives on Income Support. My partner has his daughter 3 nights and 2 days per week. His Ex has said that she has lost some of her Income Support relating to the daughter because of the 3 nights per week with her dad (my partner). This lady can be a little creative with the truth, but I'm wondering

    1. Can it be true that her income support would be reduced because daughter visits dad 3 nights per week

    2. If so, can where is the benefit that has been stopped from mum? Can my partner claim it?

thanks to anyone who can help here. Of course, she may be making this up just to stir things... it wouldn't be the first time!!

I havent heard of that before, give a Jobcentre Plus a ring near you and ask them the facts.

Your partner won't be able to claim anything for his daughter as he is not the "person with care" but the "absent parent". Only one person can claim Child Benefit for a child so he couldn't claim Income Support.

If I can help in anyway on the board feel free to contact me as I have lost of experience in HB and CTB as a trained Assessment Officer!

I have had some wonderful help on these boards and am really grateful. I posted before to say that I have received a letter from Tax Credits. They have myself and my husband (we have 2 10 year olds) as earning £492 gross per week. I've had a look at payslips and we actually earn £550 per week gross - but if I take out pension payments - it works out at £515.00 per week - £23 more per week than they have us down for. Will we have to pay all of this year's allocation back? I'm really worried.
  • Hi if there is somebody who can help me with what benefits I am entitled to as a 27 yr old, single mother to a 10 week old baby I would really appreciate your help. I am on maternity leave from a full time job working 40 hours a week but am due to go back to work at the end of April. I have done my claim for child benefit which I waiting to hear about bu that should be fine, and I have got the CSA being sorted at the moment but I have having great difficulty establishing if i am entitled to working tax credits and whether I am entitled to the sure start maternity grant. I am very confused but if anyone can help please email me on putman0902@yahoo.co.uk as I need a quick response and will definitely get the reply there. Thanks, Kate

  • Hope you can help,

Having recieved my 2006/7 council tax bill for £850 i paid £700 in May 2006, i then planned to pay the additional £150 in two payments £75 Feb 07 & £75 March 07.

i recieved a reminder for the council tax at the end Jan, which to be honest i didn't take any notice of as i had every intension to pay as above. so didn't contact any body.

Now i recieved a letter stateing a date for the period of liability 1 april 2006 - 31 march 2007 and that i am to appear in court with an additional cost of £63 addministration from the council plus £3 court costs. i phoned and asked why this was, when the period of liablity is beginning of april - end march 2007. i was told that i needed to put it in writting, but by which date the court date would have been and gone. unable to attend the court to further losses i would incure via having the day off work i paid the full amount with a view to seeing if i could then recoupe the £66 total additional fees.

Would the same "rule" about the cost of administration within banks apply to council tax?

What bothers me the most is that it's not even the end of the financial year yet!!!

Can i write and request my money back? if so how should i word it?

    Any help appreiciated

    :p
  • This may be worth a go, the community foundation (manchester, you'd have to look at their web sitehttp://www.communityfoundation.co.uk/apply/our_funds.aspx ) they used to offer funding for women furthering their "professional development" £1000grant none repayable. if they don't still do this they may have something else.
  • Advise re Child Maintenance
I have split from the father of my three kids two and half years ago. He has never paid anything towards their upkeep. One is over 18y so I think she will be excluded but is it worth trying to persue him with CSA or are they now defunct/ confused so becoming pointless.... if so..... how else can I get some funds for kids out of him. He says I earn more than him so I should pay for everything! I think I only earn more because he only works part time. He does now have another child so I think this would come into the equation. I have been reluctant to put in a claim as I got burnt when advised to claim for child tax credit and had to repay all when he left!
  • In 2005 I was off work sick for 3 weeks and claimed housing benefit. In june 2006 I bought my house from the local council and one of the stipulations for sale was a clear rent account, which it was. Now i have had a letter from a bailiff asking for repayment of the housing benefit, can they do this even though i am no longer a council tenant. I am unemployed at the moment so do not have the money to pay this. any help would be gratefully received
