Thnks, Kate0 -
Hi, I was wondering if you'd be able to offer any advice to me.
The situation is that I have lived with my partner in his house for 4 years and we have a 3 yr old daughter together. He works full time-salary 30,000 and I work part time (his mother looks after our daughter when i'm at work)-salary 6,000.
There is a very large age gap in our relationahip and basically it has run its course. He said that we cant live together like brother and sister so i'l need to find somewhere to live with our daughter. He just says 'go to the council, they'll sort you out' I haven't got a clue what my rights are?
Thank you in advance0 -
Does anybody have any ideas please? I'm really desperate0

It would be useful to go to a Citizens Advice Bureau as they can look at all aspects of your situation and advise the best people to contact and how to go about this.Torgwen.....................

If you are working less than 16 hours you can put in a claim for Income Support and Child Tax Credits. If you were to carry on with the same work you can earn £20 per week before it is taken £ for £ off your Income Support.
If he is telling you to leave the house and you have nowhere else to go then you are potentially homeless and the best people to contact for this is Shelter. They will know the local Housing Associations in your area that you can apply for and you need to get on the Housing Register - phone your local council to find out how. Once you are in rented accommodation you can put in a claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit which are both income based benefits.

Thank you for your advice. I'm just really worried that i will be unable to afford living on my own. I am going to carry on working, I do 25 hours per week. I'l get myself down to Citizens Advice. Thanks again0 -

I had previously applied for Income Support for assistance for mortgage interest relief and had been refused. However, they advised me to reapply in May 2007 which would be 59weeks.
Question is -what does this mean and how is it calculated as my IB is due to go up in April and they have already told me I have more than enough to live which does not include mortgage payments. I am very confused. Would appreciate any help. I have come a long way sorting out my SOA and dealing with creditors which has been very scary and distressing {especially with the incessant phone calls day and night!}.
I have to speak to my mortgage people tomorrow who do not communicate with each other. I have sent a token payment which they requested but I am getting some very strong worded letters and am becoming quite upset.
Chemo brain I suppose! By the way I do not warrant going on DLA as I am hopefully going to be a survivor. Many Thanks.Carrie Cordery0 -
My husband receives incapacity benefit as he has sciatica, he had his doctor check in October and we didnt hear anything until yesterday when they said they were stopping his payments as from the previous day, the doctor has put down different answers to what my husband has answered and it has left us in a real financial mess. We are going to appeal and would appreciate some advice please, its so unfair that they dont even give you notice, if he was well enough he could try and secure some work but he isnt!0

She has already asked for a statement of her account so she can try to work out where these arrears have come from but the person she spoke to yesterday said they can't supply her with one and she just has to take their word for it, as 'they know how to do their own jobs' !!!!
My sister finally got her statement of her rent account today, weeks after she requested it for the second time and it show her as being £512 in arrears all due to housing benefit underpayments. The statements shows that on 27th May she was £193 in credit, and it was at this time she lost her job and applied for housing benefit. At no point was she told that the hb wouldn't cover all her rent (it's a one bed council flat), but looking at her statement it's clear that something has gone wrong as the hb isn't being paid regularly and there are loads of underpayment adjustments making it very hard to work out exactly what is what and exactly how this large amount of arrears came about. What should she do know, who does she need to talk to about trying to work out if she has been getting underpaid and if so why?0 -
Hi, I'm just wondering if any of the experts can help me!
I'm 21, living with my partner (aged 23) and have a 20 month old son. Last year tax credits over payed me in the region of £1000! So obviously my credits have been slashed in order to pay the over payments. This is my income including my salary of £8226 p.a my partner receives nothing. He was made redundant in September and has struggled to find a job since, so at the moment he stays home to look after our son.
The Job centre told my partner that he wasn't entitled to JSA as I was working and because he didn't pay enough stamps in 2003. (forget the fact that he paid in excess of £100 a week to NI and tax from 2004-2006)
I'm really at a loss because at the moment our disposable income a month is approx -£60 which is obviously NO disposable income. Please help as my council seem to think I don't qualify for CT benefit or HB and Don isn't entitled to JSA. Aren't the honest hard working people entitled to anything these days?
Please can someone help me as I am really that low at the moment I just don't know what to do!!!!
Many Thanks

Ji there, hoping you can help.
Had 2 hb op's recently. first one only for £15 as they said my daughter had turned 1 so our amount goes down. fair enough it does but why over pay me-they knew in advance when her birthday was. is this office error?
secondly overpayed £220. i claimed child care costs from tax credits. they gave me an extra £50 a week towards £60 costs. great, i thought, until hb tell me this money is not disregarded as my husband is not working ( off sick) so tc gave it to me in one hand and hb take it straight back!
i have written to appeal on bith and still had no reply. I think it's crazy they expect my husband to look after the children when he cannot walk and will not disregard the child care costs award. do u think i have a chance?
many txs0
