On the subject of food I've just done the shopping list and meal plan for next week. I'm attempting a less than £20 week although I think dog food might tip me over. Oh well, he has to eat!
I've been on strike today but ended up working all afternoon at home marking yr 11 exams - at least they're done now. But, its a day's pay lost:(
I've just dug out a couple of cards from my stash to give to birthday friends tomorrow - glad I remembered in time, otherwise I'd have ended up buying grossly overpriced ones from the shop on the way to work.
My sister has bought me a load of moisturisers and cosmetics for Xmas (at my request) and I'm trying to make what I have last until then. So I've just been through the bathroom cabinet and drawers to dig out any trial sizes and ends of bottles that I can find to use up over the next few weeks. The one I'm using now will probably last until the weekend and then there's 3 weeks to eek things out for - will probably just about make it. I refuse to buy more!0 -
Ahh I already do Valued Opinions and don't think that much of them tbh, keep getting screened out, grrr#39 - Save £12k in 20250

Just back from battling the bonkers weather and the shops -went to Poundland, Ald*, Mr S and Farm Foods and managed to spend a total of £19.41:j
The only thing I didn't get was shampoo and conditioner - nothing good on offer so decided to try to stretch what's left until next weekend.
It was mostly fresh stuff (F&V) and dog food and a few treats for the weekend (came in at about £1.50 so not too bad, mostly Mr S basics stuff).
I'm really trying hard to stay within budget this month so I'm on a use it up week to empty the freezer a bit and make some cupboard space for the mammoth Xmas shop (family are coming to me for 3 days this year).0 -
Just had an exhausting 90 mins cleaning the house - all done now and looks nice and spruce!
Have just checked the bank and have £60 ish to last until the 14th - I have no big plans to go out anywhere expensive and will do another minimum food shop next week (£25 at the most) so I should make it. There's always the overdraft or savings for an emergency but I don't want to use them if at all possible.
I'm planning a bit of a lazy afternoon watching the rugby on telly and having a bit of a rest, maybe even a glass of wine - how decadant!0 -
I've decided to start a new e-savings account to put a few pounds each month towards the insurances so I don't have to have a direct debit for at least one of them next year.
Lloyds is my current account bank and they have a really good online service so I've just opened an account (took less than a minute - always amazes me for some reason!) and deposited the first £5. If there's anything left the day before payday I'll transfer that too.
Just a year ago I was obsessive about paying my debt back and now I seem to have transferred to obsessing about saving!
I now have a current account, 2 savings accounts (including an ISA) for not to be touched money (about £3500 in them), a living room redecoration account (£200), an everyday account for nothing in particular (£100 ish, used to be for Xmas but that's all paid for now) and now the new "insurances" account.:rotfl:
I think that when the "nothing in particular" account gets to £250 I'll transfer the excess £150 to the not to be touched account leaving £100 for a contingency. Then repeat!
Very complicated this saving lark isn't it?:o0 -
Well done - I put £250 into savings today - not sure how long it will stay there but its a startAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

That's fab! A nice healthy chunk of cash.
Just back from a freezing cold and wet dog walk - not pleasant.
School work and general faffing on the agenda today - hopefully 3 hours or so will be enough to get everything done. We'll see....0 -
i have lots of savings accounts like you for various things and i wouldn't be without them. I'll soon have a savings account for decoration funds, how do you decide when you'll finally get around to doing each room? Patience isn't really my strong suit so i'm worried i'll just say s*d it and start pulling paper off walls.0
