Well, I was going to wait until Saturday for the food shopping but was very bored and procrastinating about schoolwork so decided to try doing my shopping in Aldi instead of Mr T.
I managed to get everything I needed apart from a red onion (don't want to buy a whole bag when I only need 1 small one) and a small milk (they only do big bottles and it would go to waste).
The bananas also looked a bit yellow for me and would go off before I ate them all - I usually buy them green and ripen them at home.

I've bought their dog food too - looks OK to me but we'll see what poochy says at tea time;) For a dog that will eat any human food at all he's remarkably fussy with dog food.

I managed to spend £17.80 in total.

I'll probably need to get a bit of fruit mid next week and some milk but won't spend more than a couple of pounds.

Right, I'm determined to do more school work than I managed yesterday (not hard as I did nothing:o). I'm up and awake and have walked the dog already so have no excuse - I need to do at least 4 hours.

I'm meeting my best friend this evening for a pizza and a movie (Contagion) at the Trafford Centre. I've already booked the tickets and paid for both as she paid for the posh do tickets the other week and wouldn't take anything for them. They cost £18:eek: - when did the cinema get so expensive?
We'll also have a pizza or something similar before the film but will try to keep the cost down.
I'll take a top back to Next whilst I'm there - £22 back in my account. I'm not a bow kind of person!
  • Hey WW,

I agree re the cinema - I either go to my local on a Tuesday cos it's super saver day (but mad busy) or last time I used MrT clubcard points (N£ctar do similar) to get the tickets in advance! Don't think that you can get them for the Traf cinema tho!

Just back from dinner and the cinema - film was OK but nothing special.
As I'd paid for the tickets my friend paid for dinner :T - worked out about the same price and also had some pop and pick and mix - another £6 but has to be done!

Unfortunately its freezing here now and I've just put the heating on for an hour - winter is definitely on the way!

My friend asked if I'd like to go away between Xmas and New Year with her - would love to and my parents have alreay said that they'd like to give me some cash for my 40th birthday as they did the same for my sister so hopefully it won't cost me too much on top of what they contribute - she' s investigating it this weekend. Might be something to look forward to!

Sorry WW - somehow didn't see your new posts come up despite being subscribed!

You've got a lot done in your week off. The trip away for your 40th sounds lovely.

Hope you have a good weekend. I've spent most of my spare time this week painting.... It helps with getting to sleep at the end of the night. Done hall, stairway, landing walls, bathroom walls. Tried doing my downstairs loo in red - but ended up repainting grey to try and give it an undercoat so that red will go on streak free. Am going to give it another coat of grey and then hopefully repaint red tomorrow. Have bought funky purple for DS to have on a feature wall too... I do love colour!! I'm thinking of getting him to use grey underneath for same reason too.

Flipping eck Saving - you've been busy! Bet it all looks lovely and new and clean!:T

Already popped to the park with the dog and the local shops. In the greengrocers I spent £4 on a pomegranate, 3 bananas, 2 apples, 2 tomatoes, 2 punnets of raspberries, 4 satsumas - not bad I thought . Also bought a small milk in Spar for 49p (use less than a small bottle a week these days) - so that's another £4.50 on to the grocery challenge but I have loads of nice fresh stuff in now.

Going to make sausage and mash with peas and gravy for tea using cheap spuds from Aldi and probably make too much mash so I can do a cheese and potato pie for tea tomorrow.

Staying in tonight to save some pennies - I've spent enough on social things this week with going home for a few days and being out last night. Looking forward to a nice warming tea and a DVD borrowed from mum. I resisted buying a bottle of wine from the village too - very virtuous!:rotfl:

More school work to do today - a few hours later this afternoon maybe (no maybe about it - it has to be done!).

I'm off to have a nice warm bath and put some washing on - its flipping freezing in the wind.

You got a bargain there at the greengrocers that was an amazing amount of fruit!

  • Hi there, just stopping in to say hello from another Welshy :) Nice going on the fruit and veg! Wish we had one a bit closer, it would cost more in petrol to get there than it would to buy the stuff we need!

Yes I'm quite lucky - there are 2 greengrocers, 2 butchers (a basic one and a posh one), a Greggs, a Spar, a cheap off licence and a post office in my local village. It about a 20 min walk to the shops or 2 mins in the car so I could in theory survive without a supermarket but things like frozen and tinned stuff are much cheaper at Aldi/Tesco for me. I tend to split the shop if I have time - doesn't always happen!

Always nice to see another Welshy - although I've been exiled in Mnachester for the past 15 years or so!
  • Oof 15 years?!! Damn....

Yeah I used to live 2 minutes walk from every type of shop you could think of (and takeaways - not so good!) but have sacrificed close shops for a nicer flat (...and moving in with the lovely OH :P) Am trying to convince him to move back though :D
