    Thanks Valli

Lots done - the bulk of DHs work suits, shirts and ties has been vac packed and put away along with most of my summer stuff. Decent stuff has been stashed away in the wardrobe and his drawers are now filled with clothes he is supposed to do building work in. Next job is to fix him up with a clear workroom/study so that he can stop taking over the dining table.

Plan for the rest of the weekend is to finish the garage and draw up a list of jobs that we can do with the materials we already have.

Boys go back to school 1st September and the aim is to having everything cleared and ready for him to start his 'new role' then. I need to start saving boxes to pack the contents of the kitchen in :j We have the unplaned oak, handles, hinges and I bought a lovely double belfast sink and taps last year, will need to e-bay the children for worktops and flooring.

    Well done hex :D

How much do you expect to get for the children? Might you make more money from DH selling some of his fantastic metal sculptures?

The children have to be sold at the farmers market they count as livestock and ebay dont allow it :(

If you want stone worktops.. contact a monumental masons with the sizes you want.. they are cheaper and better quality than a specialist place.. ;) Or contact the quarries direct.. they have the machinery to cut to size and polish.

Having just caught DS1 whacking my mature pear tree with a stick and knocking what little fruit there was left off I am seriously considering paying someone to take him away! I also have several kgs of very ripe plums falling off the tree, little room in the freezer and very little sugar for jamming. £5.22 left of my grocery budget and I refuse to go over!

I would love stone or a good dark wood like wenge but I need 8 metres so I suspect it will be oak in some form. I want to keep the cabinets fairly light in colour, and simple shapes. Going to be fighting DH who likes dark wood, fuss and detail, and has just taken up wood carving.

Greenbee, he has gone very arty at the moment and some of his ebay earnings have been invested in a pile of clay for him to do some sculpture. Also playing with paint, printing and the wood carving. Need to find a good source of scrap metal for more sculptures, and some wood for carving. I am deeply envious, he seems to just pick these things up and be good at it. Not sure how you can actually make a living from it which is where the consultancy comes in. We have spent the last ten years collecting tools, books and inspiration - and he is just so happy to finally have the time and energy to play.

Hex - looks like you'll be eating stewed plums for the next few days then! And it sounds as if you need another freezer. I have a broken metal doormat which you can have if you're passing this way at any point... (and apple tree prunings for kindling... Bags and bags of them)

And think about carbonised bamboo for workflow - it's not as dark as wenge, but you could get some samples and see what you think. I have it for the work surfaces and floors. As for the carving, can you find somewhere you would like some carving and suggest that it would be great to have a plain, simple kitchen (which will also be easier to clean) but you'd love some carving somewhere where people will have more chance to appreciate it...

My dad has just told me that iron supplements take at least a month to work and I have to ut up with feeling tired and breathless and anyway the tiredness could be the other pills and I need to go and have a blood test. I am now officially p*ssed off with being ill and very, very bored of it :(

We have removed boys mattresses and hoovered both sides of them, cleaned the bed frames, hoovered the floor, found 2 sleeping bags 1 unused and an unused bed in a bag. Hope a charity bag comes soon. Cat has had her flea drop on. DH and DS2 have been bitten afterwards. Anyone know if there is anything I can spray etc. Cat is treated regularly so I'm not sure what is biting. I have washed all bedding yet again.
