Oh don't you worry they will get the full story along with all the plans of the house with boundarys. We did have a net extending from the fence (From the previous occupiers)but when we moved in we got no hello or welcome just can you take the net down, which we did at her request. Then when the summer months came we got a letter saying how she liked to hear children laughter but can we take them to the park or open spaces! Hello, what is up with this woman. Its my garden and I will do whatever I like (within reason). I have 2 young children and they will play on there trampoline and ride there bikes. My neighbours on the otherside are retired and we have no problems. When we had all that snow earlier in the year I got there shopping for them on my sleigh and cleared there drive for them. Also I saw them on their hands and knees with grass cutters last week as there mower was broken and I cut there large lawn with my mower for them. So I am a considerate person and will help others in need. Just a shame the relationship isnt the same the otherside she is the one losing out! Ive never had issues with previous neighbours. So Im the one who shows respect. Would you do the same for your elderly
neighbours ... think about it.
Their.

it seems like most people are assuming that the kid is out of control and being a menace.... the odd football is hardly the crime of the century and somehow the OP is a terrible parent bringing up the next generation of selfish yobbish thugs.....
the odd football going over the fence is a bit annoying but if it's 3 or 4 times a year, the world won't end. if kids are in bed by 7pm then it seems harsh to demand that they play in the park. it sounds to me like the next door neighbour is expecting children to be seen and not heard.
OP - put up the net. bats are smart, birds are smart and it will stop the balls going over. stop adults kicking the ball around like small kids. stop the ball getting into her garden but also keep an eye out on how much noise is made when playing the garden.... constant screaming is a real pain but only you can know if your kids are making a excessive noise or not. don't assume that they can do no wrong and are angels - the best solution will meet somewhere in the middle.:happyhear0 -
This elderly lady is unable to throw balls back over a 10ft fence! Ok there will be exceptions but for the most part upper arm strength is quite poor in the elderly. I work with the elderly and we play ball games, they are that safe with balls we chuck them about indoors.Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman
but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!
When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

Perhaps just put the net back up, and throw a sheet over it at night to stop the bats getting tangled?0

I would advise the old lady to take up golf and bat some balls over your fence to see how that plays out for you..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Yes, and I'm sure the OP would give all the balls back even if her child gets hit on the head and ends up in hospital.0 -
Because they could have hit her and hurt her badly. What part of that do you not understand?
Oh, and that's ok then if it's the adults kicking the ball over. That's not your responsbility is it?
OP, why don't you answer the point about the football injuring the old lady? Don't you care? I thought you said you were considerate?0 -

She is being considerate!! Most parents would tell the old lady to get stuffed and not seek a compromise...
I suspect like many on here this old lady is from the school of children should be seen and not heard and dang what anyone else thinks!
OP Put the net back up and be done with it. If you want to be sarcastic give the kids licence to be as noisy as they want when in the garden provided they kick footballs no where near the offending fence!!0 -
