Firstly, to the guy who said your 7 year old son could get an ASBO for playing football in your back garden, what a joke you are. Wake up and get real.
The old woman wants it all her way. She does`nt want you to put a net up (even though previous owner had one) and does`nt want the balls to come over the fence, it`s either/or old lady.
Put a net up, that`s what we had when we were kids. On a couple of occassions we went next door and got the football back when they would`nt give it us

Well thank you for all your opinions! Yes, I do live in a nice area where everybody has stripes in there lawns and no children! If I was a selfish person I would let my son play football in the garden at 6.00 in the morning when he gets up and all weekend. Yes, he does play matches most weekends. I have to put up with my neighbours dog barking and her numerous windchimes. He plays football alone in the garden as when his friends do come round they play game consoles. My neighbour is the one with the problem not us. Not many balls go over but when they do what is the harm of throwing them back. Adults have kicked a few over whilst playing with my son. If her dog came into my garden I would give it back not keep it for evidence! I usually respect the older generation but this has opened my eyes! The fence is on our boundary so it is our responsibility. We bought this house for the size of the garden and we intend to use it. I have tried talking to the neighbour again today and she got abusive so I just walked away and now I have contacted the police and they can resolve it.0

The police will be delighted to get involved with that on a Sunday. Don't suppose there's much else going on in the country at the moment
.
As for the barking dog/s - two wrongs don't make a right.
I can't see why you cannot arrange the goalpost so that any overkicks are in the opposite direction to the old lady's garden. However tolerant you believe she should be, having footballs land in one's garden (especially if said garden is your pride and joy) IS annoying and intrusive. It's not her job to chuck them back for you. Why should she?
It would also be a good lesson for your son about consideration of others over and above what he wants to do.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

My next door neighbours kids are a nuisance and I've told them they can have there balls back when there parents come round and ask for them, as they don't I've got a collection, I don't see why I have to keep chucking them back when the parents are in the house and not been inconveinienced. They don't care if there gardens a mess but I've spent time on mine.
Next door but ones son never loses his ball in others gardens, so it isn't like it can't be done, his parents are just more considerate.0 -

Why, because I teach them to be considerate to other people?0 -
Oh don't you worry they will get the full story along with all the plans of the house with boundarys. We did have a net extending from the fence (From the previous occupiers)but when we moved in we got no hello or welcome just can you take the net down, which we did at her request. Then when the summer months came we got a letter saying how she liked to hear children laughter but can we take them to the park or open spaces! Hello, what is up with this woman. Its my garden and I will do whatever I like (within reason). I have 2 young children and they will play on there trampoline and ride there bikes. My neighbours on the otherside are retired and we have no problems. When we had all that snow earlier in the year I got there shopping for them on my sleigh and cleared there drive for them. Also I saw them on their hands and knees with grass cutters last week as there mower was broken and I cut there large lawn with my mower for them. So I am a considerate person and will help others in need. Just a shame the relationship isnt the same the otherside she is the one losing out! Ive never had issues with previous neighbours. So Im the one who shows respect. Would you do the same for your elderly
neighbours ... think about it.0 -

Because they could have hit her and hurt her badly. What part of that do you not understand?
Oh, and that's ok then if it's the adults kicking the ball over. That's not your responsbility is it?0
