Congrats on the imminent arrival (and welcome to the thread):T
I would definitely go with buying the afghan and filling it yourself. You can buy a chart seperately or if you can say which sort of designs you are looking for (alphabet, animals etc) some of us may be able to help you out
I have completed 2 afghans, I will look out the pics if you would like to see them - one was from a chart booklet which I bought and the other was an alphabet from a magazine.
Thanks Louise, I think I will buy the afghan and fill it myself, more fun and MSE! I would love to see your afghans. Just need to decide on a theme now!DD born 14/12/11

Hi all,
I'm new to cross stitching, started in July and am now addicted!
I've only done a few small kits so far, and some cards (will try & add photos later). Am aiming bigger now, I've got a lovely wedding cross-stitch kit to do, the finished size is 6.25"x8.75" and the aida is 13"x11". Should I do this using a circular frame, or I've been looking at the Elbesee rotating frames, but I can't work out if my material would fit in one. What do you do?
Thanks
Sheri
PS - Can I have a number pls and be an 'official' member? Cheers0 -

I keep watching the Cupcake shows on Food Network too.
I had never watched that channel before but I discovered the Cupcake Wars the other night and it has sort of hooked me lol:o
Afghans:
This one was for my children, and took a couple of years to complete because the stitching is timy (Some UFO time in there as well haha) I have their names/dob and weight stitched round the edge, hoping it will be passed on to grandchildren (many years from now!)
This one I stitched for my nephew last year, alphabet came from a magazine - very simple, but quite large stitches.:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Hello everyone
I've been lurking for a while now and would love to join in. I'm quite a new stitcher and have a couple of kits that im working on at the moment, ill try and post some pictures at some point.
Im expecting my first baby and would love to stitch an afghan for it but im unsure whether to fork out for a kit (approx £40  and not very MSE) or buy some afghan fabric (approx £15) and then stitch some pictures in the squares. What do you all think? Where would I find small charts/pictures for the squares?
Any advice greatfully received!
Emily - I've done this afghan twice now - it's over 11 count so it's quite fast to stitch (although the count is so large / loose that the needle keeps dropping out of the fabric, it's not gripped like it is with larger counts!)
I could probably arrange aif you'd like one, but it'll be towards the end of this week by the time I can get round to it.

I have been downloading from Cross Sticher (used to buy Cross Stitcher, until I got really disappointed with its new look) each month this

I really like this - wonder if its worth doing a 6 hour road trip for. But with hubby not working I can't afford the diesel for a long trip.
Hope all are well in your part of the world.
