sorry for being off topic, but i wanted to share something with you.

i'm an active member of the Frugal Challenge (though often failing), and one of the ladies just lost her beloved cat (had to be put down, very old, she had it since 5 weeks and had to hand feed it.) as we're a kind bunch another lovely lady has written her a poem. i thought some of you here might like to read it? (warning, you might need tissues)

congrats nykied! (my worst nightmare would be being entered in a marathon! but i like watching them on telly. odd that)

    happy birthday to William!

Emily - i'm with Shelly on going with what suits, but also getting way with more than 1 if i can. i like 3 best, as i dont worry then about the loose thread eventually sagging.

i went to a MacMillian Cancer Coffee Morning today with a friend. it was lovely. tea + cake + a quilt exhibition = bliss. they were selling bits to raise extra money, i bought a few fabric squares for my patchwork and a xmas decoration, and a few bits and pieces from a random 2nd hand table - ready cut pieces to make an owl applique, some templates (cut from old xmas cards), fabric scraps cut to make hexagon blocks, and 2 'orphan' quilt blocks (ie finished but homeless)... it was fairly obvious to me that a quilter had died (or was taken very ill), as they were not sorted as a quilter would have put them out, and there were random things like a penny and a biro lid in the box of templates.

i feel like i'm giving the 1/2 finished bits a new life, finishing off someones hard work and putting it to new use. i almost feel they are special. like a legacy, although i didnt know the lady. i know one of you lovelies is completing your mothers tigers... i've never found a 1/2 done cross stitch at a car boot or anywhere... what are people's thoughts to finishing them?

A quick question on backstitching - How many squares do you cover with one stitch?

Always two. Life's too short to do one square per stitch :o

well done Nykied ! you will have a fab time :j:j

I think I last posted on Sunday ? Its been a strange week - first week back at work combined with feeling rough due to cold / runny nose / head full of cotton wool etc. Not managed any cross stitch this week until today when I finished the birthday card (needed for today!!) its come out ok but isn't perfect - design not exactly as the chart dictates but close enough.... next time I won't leave it to the last minute!

Hope everyone is having a fab saturday. weather is amazing !!

I don't know Flat Eric, might get some more of the little christmas kits where I got the meerkat one from :) Failing that, can anyone recommend any small cross stitch kits? Hopefully not too expensive coz I don't have much money at the moment...
