First of all thank you!! to Strepsy for bringing this subject up because I have been thinking the same thing myself over the last couple of days seeing the amount of threads bounced back to the main page by people saying thanks as opposed to using the button.

The thanks button will still work whether the competition is 5 mins old or 5 months old.

This is a forum and you are entitled post anything you want and I don't think the idea is to deter people from posting on the threads, a bit of fun banter is good! I did it myself the other day when Strepsy commented on a cinnamon bun... off I went and googled pics and stuck them in the thread

plus its useful to know if your links don't work or the answers we have given are wrong... so please don't deter from doing that


and as for the age old..."posted here" bit, like its been said, we don't do it to be malicious, evil, nasty or bring attention to the original OP's first, its because we genuinely don't want you to negate an original entry by entering again and also it can alert the BG's so they can merge or delete the thread.

Sorry to be thick, but I still can't work out how to switch it off. I got into messaging and notification and then got stuck.

In user CP (across the top) > Edit Options (down the left side).

You should see this in the Messaging & Notification (which is the second section down under login & privacy, and above thread display options):

Default Thread Subscription Mode
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.

Then a drop down menu with these options:

Do not subscribe No email notification Instant email notification Daily email notification Weekly email notification Default Thread Subscription Mode:

thank you for posting the thread about thanks, ive sat here tearing my hair out most of the afternoon trying to work out which ones i had done as i was clicking on them all not knowing if they were new comps or not Sorted now and thanks again, fingers crossed it will stop now :T

i occasionally post on threads, especially if i feel extra thanks is needed or i feel the need for a bit of banter regarding the competition ie kippers right said fred one but i do know where your coming from with threads being bumped with just thanks.

regarding the posted here, at first i also felt put out by it but now i understand how important it is, especially if its one entry per houeshold etc

i would also like to add how much i like it here,in a lot of forums new people posting arent appreciated much but here it is so different and everyone is so welcoming so a big thanks to you all for that and for all the competitions :T
