can I also just say sometimes it is upsetting when you (me not you itms) post a comp and people get quite nasty because it has already been posted:confused:

I don't think I've seen anyone be nasty about that on here wokkies

I know it can feel a bit dismissive when you're new and have just posted something but it's not personal, it's just to keep the board running more smoothly so that people don't disqualify themselves and everyone can win as much as possible.

I dont normally find it too bad, its just when its for every competition that it seems to get cluttered up really quickly!

you can always unsubscribe after you have entered. If you enter it will (if you are lucky) still have the option to unsubscribe easily remaining visible

People arent trying to be nasty or horrible in anyway they are just alerting people to the fact that competitions have already been posted as it many competitions you are only allowed one entry and so if you enter again you can invalidate your entry

I hadn't noticed anyone being nasty about duplicate comps. At first when people used to put "posted HERE" I though that was a bit mean. But then when I had hung around a bit I realised the reason is that people have taken time to search and post for comps, someone comes and posts it again and a lot of people enter and become disqualified. So Posted here wasn't intending to be mean, just letting people know.

This can be a busy forum at times and I think people need to not be too sensitive as it can be a fun place to be and a good bit of banter goes on.

I certainly hope no-one thinks I have been nasty to them.

Also Wokkies, I got accused of spamming on another board too :rotfl::laugh:

But i dont want to subscribe to every post I enter or post! I can normally remember when I have entered a post it just takes less time when there arent lots of thank you replies to posts cluttering the board up

Is it just me misreading replies or were the reasons for all those thanks totally self centered at the expense of the inconvience to other compers?

Yup, you got it in one. I was thinking that but holding back cos I knew I woudlnt be able to phrase it as well as someone else!

i usually say if a comp has been posted but always (well i think i do) put a :) so the person knows i am doing it to be friendly, not horrible. Once i did it and i got a snippy post back, to which i pm-ed the person explaining that i wasn't being mean, merely pointing out that duplicate posting can invalidate your entry for some comps. It was a very friendly pm and i urged them to stick around, but they never replied so i guess they took the huff, never seen them on the board since. Guess I must be really mean.

p.s thanks strepsy for being subtle :)

What I think we are talking about is ways of making sure you "tag" a competition you haven't got the time to enter immediately but want to mark in some way for later. Some people do this by adding a thanks comment which automatically subscribes them to the thread. What is being said, I think, is that this isn't the best and tidiest way of making sure you don't "lose" a competition when it whizzes away, as most good ones that you forgot to enter usually do. My point is to show that you can add a subscription to a competition without having to add a meaningless comment which also bumps the competition back up to the top of the boards.

I hope I am being clear here, tell me if Im not!!!!

Yeah your being very clear here. I actually have my settings set so that I dont get subscribed to every thread that I post in as I started to get a great long list of subscribed threads which was annoying me! For some people though this will work great but I just prefer to work through posts and try and keep up with the posts

Just reading this post back to myself I dont know whether or not it makes sense, its almost my bedtime but I am struggling to drag myself away from MSE!
