It is definitely not just the bigger stores, because I have bought mine at a little Tesco metro store.

Did you actually try buying the wine or just relied on the ineptitude of the staff to put out the right SEL's and also know what offers are on?

I reckon if I walk in there later the deal will work fine and its purely the staff having no idea.

I am at a loss to understand why the mighty Tesco can't get the computer system to work out what you are actually going to pay and have it clearly on the system. There aren't many places where you would happily pay for something without actually knowing what it costs.

We are all a bit mad!!

I have just put through an order online for 12 bottles of wine at the 3 for £12 discount and 6 small bottles at the 2 for £3 discount.

The 25% has not come off the total. Called customer services and they said the 25% will be deducted later and the delivery note will show the discount.

I paid £57 for the wine, £5 delivery charge and had a £15 ecoupon - reduced the total to £47.

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what the actual total is going to be when it is delivered? I am totally lost.

So £57 is the discounted price? you calculate the 25% off the pre-discount (multibuy) price. "Your savings" is usually highlighted in red, so take that figure and add to the £57.00. You want 25% of that total. Then deduct whatever the 25% is from the £57. Deduct your £15 e-coupon and add the del charge - et voila! you should have your total! :)

I tend to agree - I also can't quite fathom why T's IT bods can't programme the system to take the 2 for £10 discount off FIRST and then the 25% rather than the other way around, which results in the glitch. Not that I'm complaining but it seems a bit dozy to me!
  • So, my third trip to Tesco today - decided to go for the Pizza Express Meal Deal (you can freeze them and they are quite nice for a Saturday night in front of the TV) and I bought

    6 x pizza
    2 x doughballs
    2 x garlic bread
    2 x onion rings
    2 x tartes au citron
    4 x gu puds
    3 x primitivo
    2 x pinot grigio
    1 x frizzante

    Total cost pre discount £123.68:eek:

Total cost after discounts applied £45.01 saving £78.67. Paid using the remaining balance from my £50 gift card (spent £23 odd on wine this morning!) which left cash balance to pay of £18.68 :T:T

I had to laugh cos when I went the first time this am, the SA saw the discount on the wine and shouted across to her mate "blimey, this lady's just saved £52 on her wine!!" I didn't tell her how or why - god knows what she would have made of this one!

... Tesco have so many examples of these over recent months (years ... including the DTD offer) that it is either an amazing double bluff (ie they know and use it to increase sales volumes/shift stock ... unlikely) or employ incompetent staff (in IT, SEL processing and also marketing, given the DTD debacle). That said, they make millions in profit, so obviously manage to do something right (but would be even more profitable if they got their act together!).

How many times do you see glitches for the other supermarkets? Answer, rarely.
