I know there are lots of Londoners out there, so will you help a hick from the sticks, please?
We're up to *the smoke* tomorrow for the day. We have train tickets, and I've been looking at getting around in town. There are 2 adults, 2 small penguins (11 and 13). We're coming into St Pancras, and to the theatre near Covent Garden. The geography's fine (I pretty much remember the central Tube map from when I lived in London) but what's the best ticket to buy? Singles, bus only, Oyster, Travel card??
Thanks loads, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Well done stefejb, we have the same problem with families and holidays. We also took a break to Bognor Butlins and had a really good time last year, enjoy it it sounds like you got a fantastic deal!0

Thanks for suggestions catowen and lil_me :T
PenPen, hold on while I pop off to price it up for you(the trouble with when you live in a city rather than visit it, is that you only really know the method of transport ticketing YOU use!) Edit: worst case scenario (if I don't find anything cheaper) for completely unrestricted travel in zone 1 will be £12.20 for the four of you. You and hubby would get 1-day offpeak Zone 1-2 Travelcards for £5.10 each and this would make you eligible to buy travelcards for the little penguins for £1 each. Hello everyone, and a belated happy new year to you all
Haven't posted in a while, but have been reading when I can. I've been back at work for the last 3 days - so glad its not a full week the first week back from holidays: I'll probably go into shock next week when all the students are back
Was pleased as managed not to put any weight on over christmas, but still have lots of chocolate left so we'll see how long that lastsWas looking at the easter display in the shop this morning - I've seen creme eggs in the shops since before christmas, but this was a bigger display with lots of different chocolate eggs and I admit it did look rather tempting
Not sure what the plans for the weekend are - got to get some cleaning done, and general tidying etc., but beyond that no idea really. Maybe I'll take OH into town so I can spend the voucher he gave me for christmas - craft stuff here I come! :rotfl: Also not looking forward to the snow twink mentioned - I hadn't realised it had been forcast for next week, though I did see some for the week after. Maybe it'll snow so much I'll not have to go to the dentist and get my tooth taken out - there's a happy thought
*hugs* to all (especially to those feeling bad just now), but take or leave as you please as usual :j0 -
Evening!
((((hugs)))) to CCStar and tinkerbelle xxx
CCstar we are having problems with our youngest at the moment too, he's 14 and his Dads just found out he's been knicking his roll-ups:mad: he did own up but then lied and said they were for his friend who we know smokes, eventually he told his Dad that they were for him and that he has started smoking:mad: we are pretty upset about this as you can imagine. We had a long talk to him about the health risks etc which is very worrying and thats on top of the stealing involved.
We've grounded him, stopped pocket money and given him chores to do.Dont know what else to do.
My Dad died from heart disease due to smoking and my own DH has had a bypass operation( still smoking I know, have tried everything but cant get him to stop) so I have tried to get him to see sense.
I managed to finish work early :j so am now enjoying the singing programme on BBC1 before Ihave a nice soak in the bath.
Have a great weekend and hugs to all those who need them.
Take care xxxxxxDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Well its almost bed time, just having a quick read before going to bed.
Went into town this morning, market for veg, spent £3.87, so still well in on my £80.00 for the month, also went into M & S and got OH a new pully, bought an acrylic one, I am fed up of finding holes in his lambswool ones, think we may have had a moth in his wardrobe sometime last year, all his good pullys seems to have holes in funny places.
Spent the afternoon and part of this evening working on my project..... did not sleep well last night, so hoping for a better night tonight.
Right thats it..... off to bed with a cup of hot choccy...................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Off to bed for me too with a Baileys coffee, just off to put the bins out first, as this is our first rubbish collection since way before christmas I'd better not miss it.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Blimey we've had 2 since then! Bet yours is like a mountain moggins!
I have decided there is something I really dislike about OS cooking, the amount of washing up
But on the other hand it may be a swine to clean but my potato ricer that arrived today is a god send, I can now make edible mash!!!!! (that isn't runny, lumpy, yak etc it has been called)One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Evening all
ageandjo - know just how you feel. Had B I G sofa delivered just before Christmas and thought, eeeek! that's big - but it has settled in and we now like it a lot. Have a look here . . .
Have just had a mad half-hour cleaning shower room and kitchen floor and maybe I'll do bathroom in a while . . . . . . just had a sudden burst of energy so thought why not?
Penninewoman of course thinks I'm maybe certifiable.
Went to see friend this afternoon who has rescued a Great Dane - it's her fifth I think over the years. She (the Great Dane) is lovely. Really gentle - just very large and with huge feet.
OK. It's 23:27 so no one'll read this so I'll leave anything else until tomorrow.
See you then.

Pennineman/ageandjo - I had the opposite experience with my suite. I bought 2 x 2-seaters - a big one that turns into a bed, and a regular one - and was a bit apprehensive that they would be a bit much for my little flat - but no, they're perfect! Just as well considering the fuss made by the delivery men when they realised they had to get them up the stairs (only 1 flight, tho!)
(P.S. the pic was taken on Xmas Eve and the tree's now down)
