Ooooops! My mistake and mystery solved.I've just been in the kitchen and noticed the storage heater had been on all night!I haven't used them since last Winter (sparingly even then for obvious reasons) but my young nephew was visiting yesterday and he must have switched it on,you know what children are like when it comes to buttons and switches.

I shall bill his father/my brother for the cost forthwith lol! :D I'm joking of course,or am I?...:p

Apologies to Budget for doubting their bona fides but my other points still stand.I feel like such a dummy, duh! :rotfl:

Phew!!:eek:was about to get my own suspicious mind confirmed.I havent left the meter alone since i switched.I can say that i think i only used 40p for an hour and a half on my immersion heater instead of the usual 50p for same. Will keep on checking little things for a while.Glad you got it sorted and that we arent being conned..............I hope lol.:D
Re. The cut off time ie. 8am.It is a bit early but you can perhaps ring them to top up if that was possible for you.
They allow you to top up by £10 online and by phone...unlike NIE where they only allow £15 top ups.

Check out the price comparrison tool at the NI consumer council.

I am currently with Airtricity. According to the tool i am saving £50 comared to Power NI and would save a further £100 a year by switching to budget

Well I got my welcome pack on a Tuesday (after signing up on the web on a Sunday). Completed the DD mandate form and sent back with a copy of latest bill and an updated meter reading as requested. Noticed yesterday that DD got setup on account after the 10 day cooling off period and we just got a letter from BE to confirm what our monthly payments will be and when they will come out of the bank account. They also confirmed that the reading we supplied them with is the starting reading and will be the final meter reading from NIE/Power NI so will be expecting a bill shortly from them then!

    All good so far. :)
    Regards, Robin.

Great idea, you may as well get your leccy cheaper.Budget is good.I am told that Airtricity has already increased their prices to 18%,although those who have taken out a contract with them will still be able to complete their term with them.Hope all goes well for you. Old Git.:D
  • Switch completed on Friday - simple and painless.

Can anyone help me with something, though? Did an online topup this morning and didnt note the powercode as I thought it would be in the confirmation email but it wasnt. How can I retrieve this. obviously I can ring them tomorrow but thought I'd check to see if there was somewhere I could get this.
  • Hi,
thinking of switching from NIE. Is really 17% cheaper if you pay monthly?
I pay monthly with NIE by DD and I am about £50 in credit at present.
Does NIE send a cheque as a refund?

As the company appears to be very new, what has been the experiences of the early switchers as regards their first bills?

Dunwunderin- if you go to the budget energy site the details are there. It is cheaper than NIE and Airtricity and theres no contract to sign in to.You can leave when you like if you dont like them.As you will see on this thread it is very easy to switch.
We have all just recently switched to budget and are monitoring our units. We hope to come here again in Feb next year to update each other...hopefully, on how we got on.Its a wee bit soon to actually say how much we have saved etc. but i can say that from using my immersion heater for hot water for an hour and a half,i have saved 10p each time.It may not sound much but over time it will mount up and it is better off in my pocket than NIE,s pocket.I have to admit i was a bit skeptical at the start but i am much more confident now.BTW on the Budget energy site at the moment and under the heading of "BILL PAY" if you click on this you will find that at the moment NIE is 27% more expensive than budget so thats got to be good in the long run.
If you go to the very bottom of any of budget's pages theres a tab with FAQS.I think you might get an answer threre about the credit refund.Alternatively you can ring them on 0800 012 1177.
    Hope this helps.
