Even with over £200 in credit, not only will Budget Energy not decrease my DD , they have told me they are increasing it because of rising electricity costs. Latest excuse for not getting a refund, " the cheque has been written, we're waiting for someone to sign it." I was told this over two weeks ago! still waiting!
Just had my latest meter reading, it shows I am still not using as much per month as they are taking in DD. Does this ring a bell with anyone else?
Yep, that's exactly the situation I'm in. We did eventually get a cheque from them (handwritten...), but it wasn't for our full credit amount, so we're going to leave them and will keep hassling them until we get everything we're owed. At the minute they're just earning interest on money that actually belongs to us.0 -

The NI Consumer Council's electricity price comparison table has been updated to include the latest Budget price rise:

I moved from Budget to Airtricity just over a year ago but i'm considering moving back now as i've found Airtricity to be a little bit sneaky in recent times.
Firstly i used to always load up my meter if i got notification of a future price rise. I tried doing this on Airtricity when their price went up and they introduced new longer powercodes a month before the change in price so that if you do try and load up the system will know to change the unit price on the applicable day. Sneaky!
Secondly they never contacted me to tell me i had come to the end of my 1 year reduced unit price deal.
So considering changing back to Budget. I spoke to Airtricity last night to ask if they had any competitive deals and they gave me the usual " check back in the new year"0 -
Just topped up £100 now before price rise.0

We have a credit on our electric bill and when we contacted Budget Energy to reduce our monthly DD in order to use up the credit they stated the amount was correct and provided us with how they reached the figure they did. However when we contacted them again stating that they had not taken the credit in our account into consideration we got the following response, "As you are a monthly direct debit customer, the bill should show one month payment in credit as the direct debit we receive is in advance."
Does everyone who pays their Budget Energy electric bill by monthly DD have one month credit on their bill? BTW when we contacted them before to increase our DD there was no problem and the request was actioned within a few hours however when we asked them to decrease the bill it has taken them from the 28th April until today to respond although they haven't done as we requested0 -
Budget works one month in advance.
This is one of the reasons I left about a year ago!0 -

Thanks! Can I ask who you changed to and what is the difference in their tariff rate and customer service?0 -
We were in the same situation - we changed to Electric Ireland. Their price has gone up since then, but we're still happy enough with them.
(Note that we even sent Budget the *correct* calculations, since theirs were wrong, but they still wouldn't lower our DD - we only got the money back when we left)0
