I switched to a keypad with budget, was with Airtricity, but we always paying too much. Far happier, as you know how much you use a day, and I top up online.
  • About to move to Budget NI here (kaypad). Before I do, anyone having any issues with them? Is it easy to top up without hassle?

I've been with budget energy for about 2 yrs now and have never had any hassle. You can top up online,at payzone points or by telephone. You need to top up though by £10 minimum online and telephone. At payzone outlets you can top up by £5 minimum.Good thing about topping up via phone is that you actually get to speak to a "real" person instead of a machine.
I am still pleased that budget maintains their stance of always being cheaper than the others. This was their unique selling point for me.

Electric Ireland are currently cheaper than Budget for both keypad and bill pay.

Electric Ireland is the latest entrant to the NI market. There are a couple of threads about them on the forum.

I am just browsing their site at the moment...trying to find out if they are going to increase their electricity at any time in the near future.Dont want to switch and then perhaps they overtake budget energy.
  • Got an e-mail today from Budget to say they are increasing their tariff from 27th December. See below.

Think this means a move to Electric Ireland is inevitable. When i got my last bill about a month ago i was almost £90 in credit with them. They seem incapable of calculating an accurate DD amount.

    Dear Customer
Still the cheapest standard rate electricity in Northern Ireland*
Budget Energy, the same electricity only cheaper, is incredibly proud of the support given by our 50,000 customers over the past 12 months. We are still the most competitive on price in the Northern Ireland market place and will continue to be in 2014.
The cost of wholesale electricity has increased substantially, leading us to a difficult decision to change our prices. From the 27th December 2013 our unit price will be:-
    Tariff
    Current Price
    Pence per kWH
    New Price
    Pence per kWH
    Price Change
    Pence per kWH
    Bill Pay Direct Debit
    (inc VAT)
    16.000
    17.043
    1.043
This was not an easy decision to make however, Budget Energy will continue to uphold our promise to the Northern Ireland consumer, and you our customer, by offering the most competitive and the cheapest standard rate for electricity in Northern Ireland. Our price remains cheaper than Power NI or Airtricity standard rate, with no additional or hidden charges for top up or calling us.
Please note that while the price will change on the 27th December 2013 your remaining terms and conditions have not changed and you will have the right to change supplier, should you wish, before the price change on the 27th December.
We appreciate and thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
    Yours sincerely
