Having read over this thread (lightly,) it seems as though problems can arise through the bill pay - DD side of things?
I just went back onto the Budget website and noticed that you can now topup online, which I didn't see a few weeks ago (iirc?)
Seriously pondering changing over, we're planning to do quite a few things to save money in the long term over summer, changing electricity provider and installing things like gas & cavity wall. All long term savings obviously!0 -
For myself I have not had any issues with them collecting the money, and got my DD amount changed without any bother. (New amount has not come out for the first time though - due at the end of the month).
It's the billing cycle that is the main issue - bill comes about 3 months after the meter reading, just before the next meter reading. I preferred PowerNI's method of read the meter, send the bill after a week or so.
I can always remember the top up bit being there (right hand side last tab?).
I suppose if you are going with the top up then that knocks the bill and DD issues into touch, I know there was a problem with outlets not being able to top up but think thats all resolved? (See Spike's comments on this thread)Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

thought I remember reading somewhere that if you owe money on a bill then this will be collected after a certain number of days by another DD?
Can't see anything on the T&C's about it now, only thing is that if you owe money then it's due for payment within 14 days. Might be worthwhile to send them an email or call them.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I've emailed Budget Energy on my parents behalf and I am waiting on them to respond!0 -
Jo, both my last bills showed I was behind in terms of DD payments v electricity used and Budget have not requested either an additional DD amount, increase in the monthly DD or billed me for the difference. I'm going to have to contact them it would seem and request that the DD is increased so I don't end up too far behind.0

They have responded and this is what they said,
"Hi Xxxx,
Thank you very much for getting in touch about this.
This debt balance is very small at the moment so we wouldn’t worry about it, because the bill is a ‘rolling bill’ things will essentially even up over the year.
We would hope that with slightly better weather in the coming months your small shortfall would be covered by any excess in coming payments.
Perhaps wait until your next bill comes out and if the balance has not cleared up by then we can look at collecting it or increasing your direct debit slightly for a month or two.
