Hi everyone,
I am looking to lose weight and found this thread while looking through the site. I am 5' 7" tall and currently weigh 13st 11oz, I have never been to a diet class in my life but am getting really sick of all the fat jibes from my dad, the big two being "your mum was never as big as you are when she was your age" or "if you eat that you'll get fat" he says it jokingly but it really hurts and it is getting me down, it is making me worse as I head straight for the chocolate or crisps when it happens. I know I need to lose weight and I want to, I feel as though I have very little willpower, I gave up on the gym after 2 months last year as it just does not interest me. I have had back problems for the past 2 years so really have to watch what I do as well.
I am not sure where to start, some advice would be greatly appreciated.~ Car HP - £844.29 still to pay - Final payment July 2008

Hi and welcome to the Lose Weight thread.
First of all, I'm sure your Dad is saying these things for the best possible reason without realising how much it hurts you. Why don't you take him to one side and tell him exactly what you've told us? I bet he'll be appalled that he's hurt your feelings.
We try not to use the word 'diet' as it gives the feeling that it's something you go 'on' and then come 'off', whereas what you really need to do is rethink your lifestyle and begin to eat healthily.
I love Slimming World, but there are lots of other plans which work just as well - the thing is that whichever you choose to do, it needs to fit in with your lifestyle or you won't stick it for long.
Have a look at some of the recipes from different plans (look at post 1 and follow the link) and see which tickle your appetite most.
Do keep posting and let us know when you need help - there's always someone around with a word of support when it's neededI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

YAY well done for finding this thread, and MSE.
My step dad keeps saying to me everytime i bend down to pick up one of my kids ' oooh who put out the lights??' or 'why's it gone dark?' references to my big bottom, but now I have got used to the fact that I will lose the weight qwuicker than he will and even placed a HUGE bet with him, that I can get to goal weight before he does, ( and I ahve much more weight to lose than him) £500 is the price and I am sooooooooo determined to do it!!!!!
I am 2 st heavier than my mum currently is so I know where you are at the mo, but remeber thatyou are your own person and you have your own pace to ose weight and you can only do it on your terms.Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -

Hi there
Ladies, some advice please
I was on the Depo jag for 1 year and my last injection was March 2006, I still have not restarted and am struggling to loose weight.
Has anyone any experience of this and is there perhaps a link.xxxdxxx

I'd like to join! I have put on a lot of weight over xmas and into Jan, partly comfort eating and partly lack of exercise. This is because I have felt quite ill with a lingering cold and cough. I have been going to bed late and generally feel low and tired. I need to lose 16 lbs I reckon, and will aim for the 2 lbs a week. I find it difficult to keep motivated so I am hoping the chart and this thread will help. I really need to tackle this - although I am not (yet!) hugely overweight, it is creeping up and I have health reasons for it being important - high blood pressure and asthma.
I am going to try to go for 2 half hour walks/runs a day, if I can fit them in, and cut down on food and drink. I thought of having my dinner on a smaller plate to cut down the amount, and try to avoid booze. The difficulty is that I already eat a fairly healthy diet, lots of fruit and veg, little in the way of chocs, cakes etc, but I do like a glass of wine or beer and I think I probably eat too much fat. Tonight we had stuffed and rolled breast of lamb, cabbage stewed in butter and cream (Elizabeth David recipe) and mash, with more delectable thick yellow cream mixed in! This will have to stop!0 -
Hello all - again!
Sorry I haven't been around all week - had my work laptop stolen then had to go to Germany for 3 days so no internet access.
I haven't weighed as I had to miss WI this week as I was away with work but went shopping today and bought lots of stuff all size 10 or 12 - well chuffed as it used to be a generous 14.
Will try really hard this week to lose 1 or 2 lbs but I am away again for 1 or 2 nights (that rules out a lb a night in my book with hotel food and unsociable hours!)
Sounds daft but I danced around the living room to my ipod for 1 hr this evening to try to burn up a few German calories but had a glass of wine in the process - at least its exercise! Good job no-one could see me !!0 -
Consultant31 - 3 years is a long time to be trying for a baby with little or no help. I completely understand how your daughter feels. I was led to believe that if you were in your early to mid 20's you should see a doctor if you have been trying for just 6 months without success and it was only when you reach your late 20's early 30's that you need to give it a year. Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to ask if you could go to your daughter's next appointment. I found the consultant to be a lot kinder and more understanding when my OH was sitting next to me. (at my first appointment with him, he told me I was lucky I had seen the Registrar first because he would have refused to treat me!) - I've since learned that he has said these kinds of things to other women who asked to be changed to a different consultant and had completely different treatment under their care..... and yes, your daughter needs medical care! PM me if you need any other advice - I'm sure you don't want to discuss your daughter's private business on a public forum and feel free to tell her everything I've told you about me... including the birth of DS after 3 years of trying - and some help from above!Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0
