I picked random dates at the end of July and came up with fares of £26.25 each way - ie £52.50 return

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm looking for tickets for a journey from Newcastle to Totnes/Paignton on 10th August (1 way)... need to be setting off between 7.30 and 9.00am (obviously not ideal).

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm struggling to find anything particularly cheap (even with a YP railcard) but I'm new to this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

11:00am, arriving 18:05, £36.05 booked through GNER via London. No discount for railcard

You could also try booking the legs separately - ie Newcastle to London, London to Totnes or do the same with Virgin trains via Birmingham and / or Bristol.

You might even get a bargain if you travel Newcastle, Birmingham, London, Totnes

Fare from Birmingham New Street to Portsmouth Harbour: £17.50
(booked in advance, up to night before)

Fare from Portsmouth Harbour to Sandown (including ferry): £11.20
(on-the-day fare, no need to pre book)

Total cost after splitting fare: £28.70

All timings/changes are exactly the same, but it saves £29.90 - more than 50% saved!

Cardiff to Bradford on Avon (single) £3.50
Bradford on Avon to Cardiff (single) £7

TOTAL: £15.50

Swansea to Bradford on Avon (return) £34

So a savings of £18.50 -- over 50%!

I could have got it even cheaper if I could have been more flexible about my travel times, but I couldn't so...

Could anyone advice me of the best priced tickets to get to go from York - Gloucester, or Cheltenham Spa.

2 adults and 2 children will be travelling with a family rail card on about 27th July returning on 29th or 30 July.
