Thanks guys for your lovely replies

I don't know what happened, but i'm feeling really down in the dumps and tearful today, I think its seeing people doing so well and becoming debt free, I was just catching up on moozies thread and she is doing so well. I know its silly, but I keep have visions of me still sat here in 5 years time and all the dfw regulars are debt free and gone. I don't know ifs its a fresh LB moment or just a reality check, but I know I HAVE to do it this time and see it through to the end.

Well i've had a good cry and a cup of tea is brewing and I am feeling a bit better.

    Thinking positive!
I don't know where our finances will be in a few weeks, but if he gets the job then I am going to aim to be debt free in 4 years as our mortgage fixed rate ends then. If he doesn't get it then i'm making the commitment now to scrimp and save every penny to pay it off in maximum of 30 months.

debt 14/02/07 £22336 goal end of the month to be under £22K

I last went off the rails due to my teenage dd's constant nagging that she had nothing to wear, with spring/summer clothes in the shops it won't be long before she starts asking, I'm thinking of giving her a monthly clothing allowance to spend as she wants for clothes and shoes so she learns to budget and look for bargains, how much would you say to give each month?

Thanks to everyone on here its so motivating to have your support and to read your diaries.

Good luck *Zippy*!! I had my third lightbulb moment yesterday and i decided to start up mu own diary.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life as they say, you'll get there in the end and so will I, we all just need to egg each other on! I've set my own challenge be debt free before my 29th birthday in 2010. Thats about 3.5 years which i don't think is too unrealistic!!

Hi Zippy, sorry you are feeling a bit down....a cup of tea and a good cry are as good as anything for getting you back on your feet again!

Don't worry if you feel you are not making as much progress as you would like, I think everyone goes through this at some point on their journey towards debt-freeness (I think I just invented a new word lol). You are doing great.

If you do decide to give your teenager an allowance, why not make sure it is just a contribution towards what she needs....she will then either learn to make the money stretch as far as possible, or will have to earn extra money to buy the things she really wants (thereby passing on all your MSE expertise onto her!).

Before long, you will be under the £20k mark - hopefully that will be a great motivation to keep going!

Hope your OH gets some good news about the job soon xxx

    Thanks snaggles

I am feeling better luckily DH didn't come home for lunch to find me sat in front of the computer sobbing :o

I didn't put a teabag in the teapot so another pot is now brewing :p
  • Zippy don't be hard on yourself, you are so motivated, you deserve a pat on the back! Does your dd get pocket money? Don't know how much is fair for clothing allowance, they can be so expensive how does £25 p/m sound or is that too much/not enough?? I must admit I'm super tight with my 2 sons they have £10 pocket money each month and clothes as they need them, generally George at Asda, branded ones for birthdays and xmas. But I'm sure its trickier with girls, fashion and all that, my dd is only 4 so not at that stage yet!!

    Hi In debt again

She gets £10 a week PM plus £10 a week dinner money, its alot isn't it  . She's 15 i've looked into it and its unlikely she would be able to find a job until shes 16. There was a pocket money thread on the family board a while back and £10 would probably be considered generous, but she does buy herself some clothes out of this money and she usually goes to the pictures on the weekend with all her mates and they have food afterwards, I would feel a bit mean if she couldn't go out with them. If DH gets the job then I will have to stop the dinner money and she can take sandwiches.

I don't know if you cleared all those clothes you said you wanted to Ebay, but how about asking DD to list them for you and she can keep a percentage of whatever sells? That way, you'll hopefully get a nice lump sum to pay off your debts & she gets into the habit of having to 'work' to get some of her money!
