Commentator on the BBC news has just spoken the absolute truth.

The police are fearful of using any type of force, as they will only get pulled up in front of the IPCC. The government needs to send a clear and strong signal to the police to use force, to protect us, the nation, and it has not yet done so, as it watches things take hold. In the meantime, the police have to protect themselves while trying to protect us.

The government is scared to give the green light to use force due to human rights laws and political issues, surround the olympics as it would do our country damage to have children under 16 being sprayed by water cannons on the street.

    What a mess.

The rioters have the upper hand at every corner.
They can try send as clear a message as they like - too late now, as the message from government to ALL public sector workers over the last year has been that if YOU 'fuck up' WE WILL NOT support you....

....morale at an all time low, no confidence in their supervisors or ministers, no respect from many of their public, their holidays cancelled... Police are facing a very difficult task, you are correct - a complete mess.

And unfortunately what I said earlier is becoming the truth.

Although I DO commend their actions, it could spiral downwards.

Roughly 100 young men have taken to the streets of Enfield to protect the area. Could get ugly....hopefully not.

A gang of half drunk white fatties looking for cover to engage in some "p*ki" bashing ?

    God help us.

Just spoken to someone I know in the US, who used to live here.

    Were being laughed at.

Rather, I should say, our government and tactics are being laughed at. Says from their end it looks like police running around like headless chickens trying to shout boo to a goose. :(

She can believe what they are getting away with, she used to live here, but others there apparently can't quite grasp why were simply allowing it to go on.

I agree with the rest of what you say, but it's far more than just a year the police have had problems whenever they have done something.

This has been getting worse for a decade at least.

The year doesn't fit in with your politics does it :)

These 'idiots' that are rioting, mere boys caught up in the moment are indeed unemployable, they have been bought up in overcrowded council ghettos with no possible hope of ever getting out, with families often one parent who have been on benefits for most if not all of their lives. Educated in inner London schools where the majority of pupils do not have English as a first language, little hope of a gcse never mind a university placement. 54 applicants to every job advertised according to radio 2 today!

They have no hope, no aspirations, no dreams, in addition if they are seen to buck the system or go against the gangs that are running the riots they and their families will be persecuted.

I am not condoning their behaviour I am merely understanding of the sheer desperation that is their existence.

Whilst I agree that those kind of situations can happen in some families who rely on benefits, there are also umpteem others who have managed to buck the trend...we don't tend to hear about those as it doesn't make good press.

I am a single parent, not by choice but by divorce but due to having disabled children, having to rely on benefits (I was previously a high rate tax payer before children and just prior to divorce, we jointly earned in excess of 65k a year). My eldest son is nearly 18, he has 10 A-C GCSE's including English and Maths and is currently studying for A levels in English Literature, Philosophy and film studies and is going to be starting an extra A level in September (he realised a few months in he made a mistake in choosing English Language but did take the AS level).

After finishing his A levels, he intends to go to university.

He works part time around his studies, drinks very rarely, would never dare to swear at an elder, is polite and will step in to help anyone he sees who needs assistance (carrying shopping, helping to move furniture etc)...he has a very very strong work ethic.

He completely disagrees with the riots, he cannot understand the excuses of poverty being the cause, in fact, he thinks they are just that, excuses and not proper reasons and that destroying property and lives is just not on, no matter the reason behind it. His view is that although being on benefits does not lend itself to having the latest gadgets without going short in other more important areas, it is enough of an amount to have a roof over your head, food in your belly and the occasional treat and if you want to have anything extra, then you need to go out and blooming well find a way of earning the money (legally) to get them.

We apparently have a riot warning in the next big town to my village, all the shops closed at 4 this afternoon, something me and eldest discussed was a possibility last night bearing in mind the proximity to some of the areas rioted last night and the ease and speed of travel down the A12.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Yes, I agree actually, Police have been getting bogged down with redtape, excessive paperwork etc for a long time. The last year they've just had more of the same, but with an extra helping of take the !!!!!! & !!!!!!, and less staff.

You think all those Londoners can be bothered treking down to Ipswich, more likely some of your hometown losers.

    It isn't a political issue.

You are making it sound as if the tories suddenly said police cannot use force. The police have as much power now, as they did under labour.

The respect issue has been building up for years. These people didn't respect any authority 5 years ago, and they don't now.
