Looking at the pictures and watching these riots unfold on TV has made me angry. I don't normally get upset, but this situation is terrible. These rioters have now cost us around £100m which we will have to pay. Looking at the pictures of the rioters, the majority are of a certain colour, and looking at the other images of people who have voluntarily turned up to help clear up the mess are pretty much all of another certain colour. Why is that? I am not racist, just making an observation.

These 'idiots' that are rioting, mere boys caught up in the moment are indeed unemployable, they have been bought up in overcrowded council ghettos with no possible hope of ever getting out, with families often one parent who have been on benefits for most if not all of their lives. Educated in inner London schools where the majority of pupils do not have English as a first language, little hope of a gcse never mind a university placement. 54 applicants to every job advertised according to radio 2 today!

They have no hope, no aspirations, no dreams, in addition if they are seen to buck the system or go against the gangs that are running the riots they and their families will be persecuted.

I am not condoning their behaviour I am merely understanding of the sheer desperation that is their existence.

Complete and utter codswallop. I used to be an Area Manager for a well known chavvy retailer in Enfield/North London. There were always jobs for people who wanted them - but they had to turn up on time and work. Apparently that was too much to ask of the 40% of staff who 'turned over' each year. I really dispute the fact they have life hard because they can't get a job - they could easily get a job. (all you had to be able to do at my company was smile at the odd customer and make a sandwich - no GCSE's required in that)

I don't dispute that some of them have tough upbringings but the majority of those rioters will have a roof over there head, food in their belly and an education for free. Many people in the world would LOVE that oppportunity. And how many of them have blackberries etc?! How the hell do they pay for them? I'm one of those "rich business owners" that some girl totally dissed on the BBC - thing is this week, I've worked 14 hour days all week. I deserve the money I earn. Did she deserve hers drinking stolen pink wine at 9,30am. They need to man up fast and look after themselves. Why the hell should we - I'll look after the sick and the elderly but if you can work you should be!

The rioters lack of respect and their criminality is shocking and should be dealt with harshly.

Riots now taking place in Manchester. Miss Selfridges on fire. Cars been overturned and are now being burned out.

Should see the state of these youths in Manchester. Chav's doesn't even describe them....half of them not even making an effort to cover their faces up....let alone anything else.]

Birmingham are experiencing large riots, shops attacked and cars set alight.

Unfortunatley, violence seems to be stepping up, with police just standing there in a line.

And unfortunately what I said earlier is becoming the truth.

Although I DO commend their actions, it could spiral downwards.

Roughly 100 young men have taken to the streets of Enfield to protect the area. Could get ugly....hopefully not.

Not a fan of her colourful language but....

....She deserves a medal and should be taken into the Cobra meetings to give them a helping hand in how to tell people off.

I'm also glad she's not my mother. Imagine the tellings off when you were a child!!

Commentator on the BBC news has just spoken the absolute truth.

The police are fearful of using any type of force, as they will only get pulled up in front of the IPCC. The government needs to send a clear and strong signal to the police to use force, to protect us, the nation, and it has not yet done so, as it watches things take hold. In the meantime, the police have to protect themselves while trying to protect us.

The government is scared to give the green light to use force due to human rights laws and political issues, surround the olympics as it would do our country damage to have children under 16 being sprayed by water cannons on the street.

    What a mess.

The rioters have the upper hand at every corner.

My OH grew up in poverty on a council estate. He didn't have sheets on the bed, regular meals, shoes that fitted etc. He had to leave school at 15 as his parents needed him to bring money into the house. He has never rioted, worked all his adult life and as a result of his upbringing is always willing to help out anyone in need.

My DD got attacked a couple of years ago by youths at a bus stop. She was dragged out into a busy road and kicked repeatedly in the head until almost unconscious. It was dark and she was terrified she would be run over. Most of her hair was pulled out, she was badly bruised and her head was full of cuts. The attack was unprovoked. The youths said they were 'bored' because not enough was provided for them.

I am sorry, but that argument just angers me.

In Peckham High Street, 20 people with dustpans and brushes turned up to offer help to small businesses that had been hit

Here are a couple of them, remember the episode where all the rioters stopped to let Del's van through :)
