My neigbour came round tonight very upset. She has a 18 year old daughter who is at uni at Cambridge. She says she has always worked hard been a good child. She has during an argument told her mother she has had 6 abortions in 3 years. Her mum has no idea how to cope and I am at a loss how to help her, she is a good friend.

if its true, I'd advise her to get down to a clinic and makes sure she hasnt caught anything. Then I'd give her a stern lecture in contraception.:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0

Her mum took her to the dr today and has said that to her, she says she doesnt care about aborting.0 -

What a horrible thing to say! I doubt it's true though.
All you can do is hold your friend's hand whilst she assimilates just how ridiculous this assertion is, and encourage her to have an adult-adult conversation with her daighter when she calms down a bit.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Its probably more likely she has said it for shock value and to hurt her mum0

She told me because she is a good friend and was very upset.0 -
Why does it matter to the mother? Would she prefer this than her having 2 or 3 babies? I think all she can do is offer to give her daughter some advice on contraception.
Maybe the daughter was lying and being spiteful. Maybe she is just sleeping around while drunk and not think of othe concequences - I think that would be the issue she needs to deal with.
I don't think she can stop her daughter sleeping with anyone, just give practical advice to her, people sleep with others when they have feelings of low self esteem or are maybe feeling rejected. Is the mother a pushy one, does the daughter have a ny reason to feel rejected or unloved that would make her sleep around?0 -
I wonder if the girl was lying. No one in their right mind would have 6 abortions when they could just use contraception instead. Maybe she was just winding her mother up.0

No doubt her mother just needed someone to share with after such a bomshell from her daughter. That said all the OP can do is be there for her neighbour, listen to her but don't however hard be unduly negative about her daughter.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I think if my mother dragged to to the doctors for an STI I'd be just more than a little humiliated and I'd never speak to her again. An 18 year old is an adult, not a child.
She could have meant she took the morning after pill 6 times, or could have had the abortion pill 6 times rather than have a surgical op. It's perfectly possible and p!ssed off at her mother just exagerated things.
I am assuming she must be pregnant again. And the mother wants to do what? It is not actually her choice on her daughter keeping a baby.0
