Christmas Shoebox Appeals

Thought it was time to boost this up the forum so everyone is reminded to get their shoeboxes ready
In Tescos at the moment they have a tube of plastic creepy crawlies gone down to 48p from 99p if thats any good for peoples shoeboxes.
I always pick up lots of bargains when the back to school bits and pieces go on sale (waiting till the end when they mark up things for silly prices)
I dont think that will be too far away now.0 -
I have just packed 4 of my shoe boxes... got lots more stuff too.
Just wanted to say (prob a bit late!) but I got 3 geomoetry sets for £1 and 3 pencil cases for £1 in the local pound land as part of their back to school deals, you really cant grumble at that!!!

Just a bump for this thread on the run up to xmas!
I got 5 combs at 19p each from wilkinson for my 5 shoeboxes!
I was aiming higher with the numebrs but I have aboslutely no storage space which I feel awful about. I think 5 isnt a bad start tho!!
Anyone else doing a box this year??

I love doing the shoeboxes and it really brings a tear to my eye watching the childs delight when opening their box. My children have so much yet these children are grateful for any little thing, quite humbling. I did 2 last year and am looking to do 4 this time. I am going to do a teenage boy & girl as I'm sure they get less of those but will still do 2 for younger ones. I bought 3 juggling balls for £1 in Tesco yesterday for the older boy.
I do mine through Smaritans Purse as our church supports them, and so long as the boxes get to the children I don't mind, so long as I can do my very small bit.

Thankyou so much for this thread, i am now doing this with the youth group i run in my town and we plan to get at least 50 boxes. Good luck to everyone, xx"If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced". ~Van Gogh~0

Just the sweets, 5 combs and a girl's warm hat left to buy now. I was worried about the actual shoe boxes, but my mum's friend had three in her wardrobe!
I always put in:
a pad of paper
pencil case with pens, pencils, sharpener, rubber, ruler etc
coloured pencils and felt pens
soap, comb, toothbrush and toothpaste
pack of tissues
hat and gloves
ball
stickers
boy = car, jigsaw puzzle, cards, dominoes, keyring
girl = doll, jigsaw puzzle, purse, bracelets, hair bobbles
If there is any more room I add sweets and anything small toys that will fit!
For teenagers I put in wallets, sunglasses, bandana style cotton squares, and memory puzzles instead of the toys.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Just stumbled on this thread, and it's put me to shame! Especially if I think what my own children get at Christmas.
I'm thinking of asking mates at work to do this instead of sending Christmas cards to each other which to me is so pointless, as well as such a waste of money.
I realise that time is getting short now, so is it possible to recap & advise me of the best charities which we can donate too? If I do this well, I hope to shame the company in donating too!
Thanks Westy xNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
Hi Westy, It's certainly not to late to start, you have until mid November to get them done. The two I know of are
http://www.linkromania.co.uk/filling_a_box.htm &
www.samaritanspurse.co.uk Look at their Operation Christmas child area.
