We didn't do one last year because of the evangelising aspect to it. We will definitely be doing the Link Romania ones though. I'm going to start collecting asap.

I am roping in everyone I know to do a shoe box. I have felt very humbled after reading about the children receiving their gifts:

"A six year old boy called Mehi took his box outside and sat in a quite corner to see what was inside. He really had no idea what to expect, as this was probably the first wrapped gift he'd ever received. They don't have toilet paper in this village never mind festive gift wrap, and it was a treat to see his eyes light up. He punched the air with adulation and jumped up and down! I had to go and find out what made him so exited; expecting it to be a flashy toy car, but it was pens, pencils and a note pad

ok! ...youve convinced me , as a compulsive buyer of odds and ends ,I think someone like this little chap would appreciate my efforts more than my own kids who are gratefull for bits but only for a short while and then discard them to the bottom of the toybox.

off to seek out a couple of shoeboxes tommorow, quite looking forward to it.

Has anyone ever printed out colouring sheets to put in the boxes..... would this be acceptable...... I don't wanna sound like a cheap skate or anything. But money is a little tight for us but we want to do our bit to help others. I usually print off sheets for my girls and wondered if putting some in the shoe boxes would be ok.
    thanks

I am absolutely sure this would be O.k. just watch the content. No fighting, no guns etc keep it to animals they would recognise or be interested in i.e cuddly ones rabbits squirrels etc and I know it sound silly but unfortunately they won't know most of the toys our kids do so keep it simpe maybe get your children to choose trees and flowers that they would like to colour in and og by their thoughts.

Good on you for still for wanting to help others and do remmeber that whatever paper you send they will use it again and again so send pencils with rubbers on.

Get your kids involved they always know whast best just remind them that these children don't have elecricity so anything on the T.V. etc is a no no.

    Good luck

I received 100 leaflets and a poster from samaritanspurse and have given them to friends, family and posted them through the doors of 67 homes on our estate. One man called me back and asked for another leaflet so that he could do another box. They are to drop them to my house on a certain date and I can take them to the collection point. Fingers crossed I get a few boxes.
Wish I could knit though as they have free puppet patterns on the site:

my dd loves to do the shoe box appeal every year, our local town hall deals with it all, we get a choice of gender and age group for who we want to make the box for, we allways choose teenagers. its so easy to find bits an bobs in the shops very cheap throught the year. also our local Boots have a collection of local childrens homes that they send to if you take an extra gift into the store.
