Cancer Research shop in Reading had a dump bin full of things for 99p. they had childrens stripey hats glove and scarf sets in there which would be good for the boxes. perhaps other CR shops have the same.

Oh and they had white ipod nano leather cases for 99p reduced

Well I don't know whether to laugh or cry! I've had a root round for things that could go into boxes for children and young people and I've found the following:

*Two scarves that I've never worn
*Two purses that came free with bags that I've never used
*A funky vase that I bought from Ikea and never used
*THREE gift sets of smelly stuff that I'm never going to use (three!!)
*A bar of chocolate that I don't like that someone got me

That's as well as the blackboard I got for notes in the kitchen but never put up as hubby got a large calender. I'm really shocked, I can't believe there was so much just in the house. Add to that a tube of nivea moisturiser that I won in a competition and some gloves, tops and bits and pieces from the 99p store I can make up about six or seven boxes!!!

I'd advise everyone to go and have a rummage now...I thouhgt I was pretty good at taking stuff to the charity shop and generally clearing out but it turns out I had loads lying around. I've found out there's a collection for Belarus near me so I'm going to give it to them. :D
  • Oh yes - I almost forgot about the shoebox appeal - its not long now - just last week I threw a box out how annoying !!! later on today taking son out for some new shoes - however I don't think you can fit much into a childs size 7 shoebox !!!!! I'll get on the phone to family and friends - I didn't get around to doing it last year and I feel bad for that - as doing these shoe boxes for me mean so much especially now that I am a mum myself - we all have so much and those poor little things have nothing - its just such a wonderful thing to do .......... am off up into the loft now for a good root around - I know there are some hat/glove and scarf sets up there as last year I had every intention of doing the shoe boxes.

Well done everyone. Extremely well done to Kainsmummy for doing it all money saving - I'll be off to Tesco's either today or tomorrow !!!!!

The ladies in out local Clarks are only too please to give you boxes.

I always wonder do the boxes ever get opened beforehand and the contents re-distributed.

Our church sends to Romania now, after Samaritan's Purse didn't come to collect our 140+ boxes as arranged. It was a bit awkward storing them for 5 weeks, especially as they were ready for mid November, as requested.
Someone drove them to the nearest collection point (next city) in the end, 2 days before Christmas. Goodness knows when the boxes were given out.

Yep it's time to hand the boxes in 4th - 20th November. Here's the collection point link

    http://www.samaritanspurse.uk.com/occ/dropoff-points.asp

I would have preferred the Romanian one but the collection point is too far away.

Darn! I've just noticed the Romanian one now has a closer collection point. I will do theirs next year.

They send you a leaflet which advises you on what to put in. The whole family get a box each, so they are able to pass things around each family.

Mates have put together 15 boxes from work, which I dropped off at our local collector this morning.

Thanks for the links to this charity.
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)
