Alternatively, you could look around the Cambourne area, but I'm not as familiar with it as Ely.

Sniff, I was born in that hospital... Yes, Clarkson Ave is where the "doctors" lived according to my Nan.
In the centre (the Castle) and along the river are some beautiful Georgian houses, if you are into that sort of thing.0 -
Anymore info on Ramsey?

I was born in Cambridge and lived in the area for 36 years.
Cherry Hinton's close to the town and nice.
Histon/Impington, I grew up there, nice but can be pricey if you want a lot for your money.
Oxmoor, Huntingdon - I had a friend who lived there, on bonfire night they'd come round and rip your front door off to build their bonfires.
Cottenham, I lived there, it was nice enough at the time but now has a big problem gypsy camp on the outskirts of the village.
Willingham, was always nice enough.
Girton, bit posh but it is possible to walk into town from there if you're fit.
Bar Hill was always the choice of those with a bit less money.
Camborne wasn't built before I left.
St Ives/Godmanchester way - nice enough, but huge queues to get into Camrbdige every morning.
Ely can be a bit far out and not a lot there, but lovely riverside.
Milton was always a popular choice as it had good road links and was right on the edge of town.
Newmarket's nice/posh.
I'd not go for March/Chatteris - they were always a big inbreeding joke (only it wasn't a joke!)
Landbeach/Waterbeach are nice enough, Waterbeach has the station I used to drive to if I were going to London way.
Really most places are nice. Best thing to do is pick anywhere except a smallish fenland village then ask again.
I can't believe mattg said 10 minutes to commute from St Ives... I've spent an hour getting from Histon to the Science Park before! I also worked in Huntingdon and it'd take 30 minutes even going against the traffic. It's 15 miles from St Ives to Cambridge (castle hill), which is about the nearest point - so to do it in 10 minutes you'd be travelling at 90mph at every point of the journey!0
