We have been looking at the chatteris/warbouys/ramsey areas... Any comments about these villages?
Chatteris is a town and has recently be reclassified as a suburb of Cambridge. This has pushed the prices up a bit, but there are still areas that are affordable, albeit in the grotty parts. Chatteris also has lots of up and coming areas, but some of the residents feel like it is the poor relation when compared to the other Fenland towns (March, Wisbech & Whittlesey) as it has fewer public amenities.
I can't really comment about Ramsey or Warboys as I don't know these areas as well.0 -

Its not the cheapest place to buy, but it is in a good location. You can be in Kings Cross in around 45mins if you get on the right train and Eaton Socon is walking distance to St Neots town cenre and train station.
As previously mentioned, avoid the oxmoor in huntingdon. You'll know if your looking at houses there, cos it will be too cheap to be true, and have no windows (still, one less thing to look through, I suppose).
I believe commuting to cambridge can be a tiresome journey as the A428 can get very busy at peak times, but its very close to the A1, and less than 15 mins from the A14, so fairly good transport links...
There is a website with pictures and forum etc at:

Maybe worth taking a look?0 -

Just to bring this thread back to life, we've still not found a place ...YET.
But Chatteris has a tempting house, so if there are any more comments on this town, much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I live in peterborough, and used to visit chatteris and nearly every nearby village and town in cambs in my last job.
Not really much to do in chatteris, and a few small independant stores as well as a supermarket.
I would really recomend looking at peterborough there are some very nice areas and local villages. There are of course some dodgy areas.
I can PM you on the nice areas and any other info, let me know.0 -
I lived in Peterborough for 26 years and recommend it. As Manhattan says there are good and bad areas but on the whole it's got lots going for it.:rotfl:0

Chatteris has both its posh bits (mostly new builds) and poor bits (mostly council housing). It is supposedly an up and coming suburb of Cambridge even though it's nowhere near it.
The locals complain a lot about the lack of facilities, especially the lack of a local swimming pool. On the whole the town is a nice place to live, but it does feel a bit villagey at times.

Actually Chatteris DOES have a swimming pool. It is private membership and the fees are £160 per year for family membership - bargain if you ask me!0

Sorry, I meant local authority pool like the other Fenland towns. People I know in Chatteris use the Ely pool becasue, according to them, it is much nicer.0
