Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3 Price Hunt

Sure they are warned with every release- but many retailers ignore it to become renownded for getting their customers copies a day or so early in order to get more sales.
The guy I spoke to in tesco said that they intended to ship them on today but the warning they got this year was sufficient enough to delay shipping till Monday.. which sucks!
No, reputable retailers who value the relationship between themselves & the publisher won't jeapordise that by selling it early, the fine is one thing, but Activision can then effectively say to a chain "ok, so you broke embargo on CoD - from here on out, your stores will recieve their delivery of stock at 5pm on Thursday evening". Independants are notorious for breaking embargo given that they often get supply from secondary sources so this doesn't affect them so much. (often times it's actually cheaper for an indie to buy the game from a Supermarket as opposed to getting it through trade suppliers)
Essentially with CoD reputable retailers will wait as it's not worth risking the wrath of Activision who could severely impact their supply chain. Further to this if one did break street date it could also impact their ability to negotiate special editions not only for CoD games but for other Activision/Blizzard games.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
That's 'from the horses mouth' as they say. Personally, I don't think losing the ability to play and the hassle of trying to get your account reinstated is worth chancing it for though.
its the general consensus, the question has been asked before and thats the reply thats been given, just read on the forums basically what you said.
Isnt it just a temporary ban thats dished out,0 -

GAME began emailing their customers last night to say the game had been despatched.... so surely theres a large risk many people will get their copy early.
GAME/Gamestation are the main high street gaming retailer right?0 -
Just because it was dispatched on the system doesn't necessarily mean it is actually dispatched from the warehouse, self same thing happened with Gears 3, many were emailed notifying dispatch but it didn't arrive until release date, there are mechanisms in place to avoid it happening. While they may be the main high street specialists it's arguable that they have less clout now than they did several years ago - i also don't think it would be wise of them to consider upsetting Activision, not when the games retail business is suffering as badly as it has been in 2011 thus far. The other problem is that if they break street date Activision then essentially control the availability to them - doesn't seem like much of a threat, but it could seriously impact your Christmas if you struggle to get a Grade A title in stock.
Who knows, maybe people will get theirs early, but i would expect an 8am knock on the door on Tuesday morning. I know a certain multi-channel retailer has it's copies in already (think a dog & a share price less than the cost of a Wham bar) at store level, but again i would urge caution with them, personal experience tells me they're good at botching CoD orders
