any business that works to that theory won't be in business for very long no matter how many new customers they think they will get! Ultimately, they will fail. Customers are not a right for any business, they have to be earned (and kept!) and poor customer service loses customers - fast
Yes but what is your defination of 'very long'. Online retailing has been around for around a decade at the very most and there are still many millions of new customers waiting to be exploited. I agree 100% that it a shoddy company won't be able to get away with it forever but until word gets round about Ebuyer's(this is why Watchdog should have exposed them) bad business practises a lot more people are going to get stung. Therefore it would save much pain all round if this affair brought them down and taught them a lesson. Maybe they might put their house in order if they thought that they would not get away with it everytime. Instead they don't even get a slap on the wrist.

I have use ebuyer a number of times and to date I have no problem , I am aware their cistomer services dept isnt as good as I would wish how ever the reason I use them and lots of other people use them is simply they offer lower costs than anyone else.
I suspect the reason that Trading standards and watchdog did not take this matter further is it simply they quickly understood Ebuyer made a mistake
I have seen of a number of times on this forum where business make mistakes
and some members of this forum act like birds of prey going in for a kill.
Either accept that Ebuyer made a mistake and move on or put your money where your mouth is and take them to court

Sure some people say they made a pricing mistake.

They also made a mistake of taking your money then informing you that they has accepted your offer. Also made two mistakes in there own terms and conditions think it was 1.1 and 2.3. Then made a mistake that the the tv was discountued despite it still up for sale. Lots of mistakes there, do do appear to be rather careless.

My biggest gripe with ebuyer is their greed. In their rush to get their grubby hands on our money, they extracted it from credit cards before even validating the order. The same goes for any other retailor who follows this practise - DO NOT BE SO GREEDY. Why should we accept such mistakes when they can and do get away with it. If after making so many mistakes, they still can't act honourably then they should not be trading, it's as simple as that!

What is the point of having Trading standards, they seem to be toothless . At the present their stance is at odds with their title. In the case of Ebuyer trading standards means trading license. If I make a mistake with pricing I have to live with it, granted it would not have cost me as much as ebuyer.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Actually I am pursuing this. As I get free legal advice/costs I have been awaiting proof I can get this for free, which happens to be today of all days. So when I next go into town later this week, I will be going to the small claims court. I already filled the forms 3 weeks ago but have been awaiting for the right department to send me the correct information.

Completely off topic but I love your big mouth, what a sexy smiley! Good luck getting your tv! :j
  • Can anyone tell me if you bothered to pursue it as I've done my research and there was a big case in the USA with Kodak who were forced to fulfill the orders - they had to back down as they'd made a contract or something....

Lots of people on here got the cheap Kodak camera, wasn't just people in the USA :) They were worried about upsetting customers, tarnishing their image etc but these days as so many people take up the offers when websites make mistakes they are rarely honoured and there's usually a way they can get out of it.

People used to say you're sorted if they take money off your card but didn't work with the Samsung TV! I think the bottom line was if you bought the same model TV from somewhere else you could then take them to court however I don't think anyone has bothered!
