Yes I just picked that up redfox - and vinny stop scaremongering - my credit cards pay out irespective of the amount. If you have paid by Visa Debit you are still afforded the same protection as a Credit Card.
Anyway it is only a minor detail cos according to someone who knows all about ebuyer has already told us we have been refunded.0 -
How does Ebuyer get away with taking the cash out our accounts all the time and Kodak do it once and have to give everyone a camera ?0

It will depend on your bank but I know Abbey are very good with refunding debit card transactions when things like this happen. A lot of people who banked with them posted on a different board when auctionworld (tv auction channel) went under whilst still owing outstanding orders/refunds.
They said they phoned the bank, told them the situation and the money was immediately paid back into their accounts. I imagine the bank then just chases the entire amount back from the company, and obviously this will have far more clout than an individual trying to claim a refund.
Really though I don't think we should be discussing this as Ebuyer haven't gone under. (yet)

Refunds under £100 is dependent on the goodwill of the bank, refunds over £100 is cover under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act of 1974 and is not subject to goodwill0 -
Lloyds is a Visa Debit whereas believe the HSBC is not. I have closed my A/c with them but my Debit card did not come under the Visa banner and therefore never used it.0

I will be contacting Trading Standards in the morning about Ebuyer. As far as I am aware they have broke a legal binding contract. Once the order was in 'picking' on Ebuyer web site, I couldn't cancel even if I wanted to because know doubt they were quick to take my money and were quick to stop me from cancelling, but its okay for them to cancel when it suits them even though money changed hands abet eletroncially.

I've only recently began buying from ebuyer and have one outstanding order and the TV
Ebuyer may be going to take a loss if they have to honour the orders, but it's not going to be large, they would have been possibly making 75%+ profit on each TV.
If they don't honour the deal they will inevitable have a lot of bad publicity, a lot of current customers who will proably never use them again and a lot of potential customers who will be put off by the bad publicity but moreso through the word and mouth experiences of existing customers.
If any ebuyer employees are reading this thread, they would have already picked up on many posts where people have had bad experiences and maybe it's worth them thinking how much worse it will become.
I for one, will not be using them again if I don't get my order and anyone I know who asks for a good supplier of good on the net will be told to avoid ebuyer at all costs....whereas, the opposite will apply if I get my orderWelcome, rogerramjet.

Because in that Kodak incident it was judged that the customers probably would not have known that the price was an error, unlike this situation.0 -

Suggest you look at unbeatable to try and work out the cost price of this TV
since Unbeatable margins are almost cost, there profit magrin is on warranty and finance
The days of huge margins on white goods is long on, yes 15 years ago some items would have a large profit magin built in nowdays is more likely to be £10 per box, example Richer sounds sell Plasma for £999 on that the profit is approx £5-10 max where they make there money is on the brackets, wall mountings and warranty as a rule once you have purchased your £999 Plasma you will spend anothe £300-£400 in bits and pieces thats where the money is made0
