I was being realistic about the reasons why Surrey is more expensive than very rural areas of England, most of which is about easy access to the capital, well-paid jobs and top quality entertainment.
But if you want me to plug rurality, the house in the middle of this shot (18th century) comes with 3 good beds and scope for more in the loft, 3 receptions, a large independent annex, outbuildings with conversion potential, about a dozen acres of good land, trout fishing and total seclusion....oh and it's south-facing and not in a frost pocket. Sold on an asking price of £700k. Took a while though...
Dunno realistically what that would be in Surrey, but I suspect a good deal more £!!!
The only 3-4 bed houses with a bit of land (0.3-2 acres) I can find on a casual search are below. Generally you get more for your money the further away you are from London, and if you want more land the house is usually much larger and costs many millions.

"That remoter area" is the view from the front of my house, which is why I didn't ID it. It's one of several period houses in this valley I'd love to own.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »
Don't know if that remoter area also gets frequent "getting in another workman to put right what workman no. 1 got wrong" scenarios (tally here so far of new things that wouldnt work by now - 3 bits of house re-decorated again/new flooring swopped again/kitchen tap and outside tap stopped working/doorbell stopped working/shower stopped working/some powerpoints stopped working)..Whew!
In a country place, if a tradesperson's no good, word soon gets around. The people who advertise, or can start work quickly, are probably the ones no one else wants.
But you aren't really rural. Vehicles can pass each other in the main street in your town......Here, we still take turns! :rotfl:0 -
Given my interests, the last one would do very nicely, especially as there's great attic space for a man-cave.The only 3-4 bed houses with a bit of land (0.3-2 acres) I can find on a casual search are below. The Surrey landscapes are gentle compared with here. The amount of woodland in many locations is a bonus and probably helps to give an air of calm. When I was in Bracknell last year, trying to cope with rush hour traffic, I felt anything but calm!0 -
That first photo looked like it was some sort of suburban horror story.helphelphelphelp wrote: »Conversation at estate agents;

And seeing as it's in Luton, maybe it is.0 -

Pics 4 and 12. Am I the only person who thinks a 'good size bedroom' would not require using every available inch to squash the bed and bedside tables into the room?0

Gosh, are they selling those second-hand already?:eek:
The way they've decorated just emphasises the pokiness of the place.
There's much better on offer in Deb'n for around the £200k mark.0
