Oh my gosh - I have been a member since- well years. How have I never seen this thread????

I have just spent the last hour skipping through to see the houses. I moved recently so actually had a real reason to search rightmove. Now well I say its because I like to buy houses and I do even now and again. TBH I just love having a nose. I used to play the game where I had to look at an area and then pick houses I thought would be sold within 1 week have to say it once I have researched the ares I am normally pretty good.

The guys in work are always taking the proverbial but I think it gives me good ideas and pointers as to what to stay away from.

Hope you do not mind but I will be lurking !!! ha ha

I did that when I moved area. I would check out a lot of houses on RightMove and then bet with myself how long they would be on the market for. I'd be literally going through the latest "crop of offerings" going "That one will hang around for some months, that one will be gone in a week or two, that one will take literally years (ie this is West Wales here)".

I hadn't sold my previous house yet initially when I was making my selection of which to view - so I was literally thinking "That one will be gone in a week or two and I won't be able to sell my house in time to get it" (that proved true). "That one will still be on the market years later" (they are). The one I actually bought was assessed by me as "That one will be on the market for months. It should go in reasonable time if it was modernised - but it isn't. It will still be there for me - and I'm the mug that's going to have land up modernising it". That was exactly how it went in the event...

The "refinement" to that game is I still study houses (back in my home area) and deciding whether it will be days or weeks they will go in and which ones I might have a chance for a crack at if I came up on the lottery (must be a "devil for punishment" - as current "probable purchase" is another one I estimate will take some months to go because it needs modernisation).

And the amount of money that needs to spent to drag it into the modern day is considerable.

Nothing wrong with the house by the look of it - so it has to be either overpriced or "There's summat nasty nearby".

    How overpriced is it?

Presumably it is overpriced - I can't see that it would cost a fortune to make it presentable, since it is mostly cosmetic and most of the messy work is confined to bathrooms and bedrooms.

Plus the ghastly fireplace plus the disgusting kitchen plus every single carpet.
