Could you tell me if you get all your recipe help from there please? I am two weeks into DD now and thought I would join as I had a 40% off discount but if you join you have to start at the beginning according to the website so I didn't bother. I'm not sure if I am eating enough and do keep to protein the vast majority of the time. I don't want my body to go into starvation mode but I'm not hungry. I do have trouble drinking the water though so reckon I have just half the quantity of water - but I am trying!

I haven't used many of the Dukan recipes, to be honest, apart from the oat bran galettes (pancakes). It's years since I bothered to separate eggs and whisk up the whites, but whisking it using my new electric whisk does make them fluffy and delicious. I've also made sugar-free jelly and whisked up egg whites, Splenda and fromage frais to go on top, and that was nice too.

I don't miss breakfast cereals at all because I'd got out of that habit some time ago, I discovered that I need protein to start the day. DH and I were in the habit of having a boiled egg with wholemeal toast for breakfast - now he still has that and I have scrambled egg with something. I must admit I look forward to the PV (protein and vegetables) alternate days. Today I had grilled bacon and tomato and I'm just now going to make carrot soup.

I can see why you'd need to 'start at the beginning' because it is designed to be in 4 phases, the first being the 'Attack' phase where you eat only protein. How long that phase lasts seems to vary depending on starting weight and the weight you're aiming at. My Attack phase lasted 2 days but it can last up to 7 days, depending.

Thanks, Eric. I think that's the difficult thing - I really don't want to count calories and carbs, I have just been trying to make sensible choices. Maybe I'm not doing myself any favours, but it makes my life that bit easier.

I will try and weigh in tomorrow again and see what the results are. I'm having a few digestive issues, so that may be having an effect on the weight loss...

This was on the bbc news website this morning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14614209

I have been obese for around a decade, so I guess that means I'm screwed? I hate stories like these - I feel pretty depressed now.

Went to zumba for the first time last night. It was ok, I didn't feel like I got a very good work out because I couldn't follow the moves all that well and spent most of the time just sort of fumbling about. I'm going to go back next week though :j

This whole thing is feeling pretty tough at the moment - I still have SO much weight to lose, and I feel like it is going to take me years and years at this rate. If monday's weigh in is anything to go by then I'm not even losing 1lb a week :(

Sorry to come here and moan all the time - I need to find a way to be more positive about this whole thing. Maybe in a couple stones time I'll be feeling happier :p

Hmm, I just had a look on the Dukan site and they reckon my 'true weight' is 13st 1lb - that seems pretty heavy! I am female, 5ft 8in... My current goal is 11st 7lbs, and even that is still too heavy according to Gillian Michaels! I guess I'll just have to see when I get there - I can't know what I'll be comfortable with until I have experienced it. Mr Dukan reckons he can get me down to 13st by march though, which is a pretty attractive claim to make!
  • World of tights do not despair the media love stories about obesity and the country being overweight, they will also use any 2-bit university study or health scare to try and depress us all.

You are doing exactly what you should be 1) understood in the interests of your health you need to lose weight 2) researched a new eating regime, must admit not sure about dukan but what ever works for you is a must. I do Rose conley and compared to what others do it is a fairly crass diet but it works for me. 3) taking on exercise, now those fit bods at the gym have no idea how hard it is to go to classes, I remember being close to tears as I was so intimidated but I did it and though still need to lose weight I am feeling fit.

Don't put yourself down, you can do it. Think positively about all those people who don't get off the sofa and move all day. You are on the road and it will happen if you do what you know you should. Even if the weight loss doesn't happen straight away stick with it and remember each trip to the gym makes that heart stronger and helps your body because a more efficient calorie burner.

    Good luck x

But you're doing something about it and with every pound you're losing, you're increasing your years :j

    got me well beat :A

Hey as I mentioned I was chuffed, but it was outside not on the treadmill ( come on OH fix the blooming thing) for a treadmill run I would be slower!

It would be awesome if we could all teleport to one place and all run 5k together reckon we would all get competitive and get PBS!
  • Thanks Trigirl and Matryoshka!

I'm not doing the Dukan diet (can't afford to!) I just wanted to see what they thought my 'true weight' was. It's quite interesting :) I'm just trying to eat sensibly at the moment, and that has been including low carb.

I am really enjoying exercising just now. I bought an exercise bike in May and honestly it is the best thing I have ever spent money on. I use it 3-5 times a week, and I can see my fitness levels increasing with every use. I have been taking trigirl's advice from weeks ago, and I'm doing interval training - I started doing 3 minutes at 38-40km, then 7 minutes at 30-32km, and I'm now up to 5 mins 38-40km, and 5 mins 30-32km. I love the feeling after a really good work out - I like to feel like I've been beaten up, haha. It makes the hard work worth it when you're properly tired after it.

I walk a lot as well, but the weather has been rubbish in Scotland this summer, so haven't done as much as that as I would have liked. I tried running, but it hurt my shins and I think I need to lose a few more stone before I can really think about doing that seriously. So the new thing is zumba! I'm also interested in maybe looking into other classes like body pump. And I'm going to dust off my Davina dvd.

Never thought I'd enjoy exercising! It's still a chore to get off the couch and go do something, but it's worth it once I'm up and doing it :j

Don't despair. I must be 'screwed' a lot worse than you, because I started putting on weight in my teens and - apart from a few years in the 1960s - I've never been anywhere near slim. At present I weigh 11 stone 1 lb and I weighed that 20 years ago. I was even up to 13 1/2 stone a decade ago and, as I'm not quite 5 ft tall, that's serious. However, I'm doing something positive about it now and the Dukan system seems to be working for me.

My stepdaughter was up to 20 stone and she'd weighed that for years. In the 15 or so years I've known her she was never slim, but she took the bull by the horns, joined Slimming World and has lost 7 1/2 stones.

I take the view that 'today is the start of the rest of your life'. Start now. Today.
Hmm, I just had a look on the Dukan site and they reckon my 'true weight' is 13st 1lb - that seems pretty heavy! I am female, 5ft 8in... Dr Dukan has my 'true weight' at 60 kg, which is approx 9 1/2 stones. All the other sites e.g. NHS say I should be no more than 8 stones. However, if I get to 60 kg I'll probably rely on healthy eating to keep control/lose some more. There are things I'll never be able to eat again. Bananas. Grapes. Potatoes. Breakfast cereals. Wholemeal bread a maximum of 2 medium slices a day. And a protein-only day every Thursday for ever.

I like the Dukan system because it is clearly-defined and has an end in view. I have a date in October when I should reach 60 kg. At present I weigh 70.3 kg and that means I've lost 2 kg in 4 weeks, since I started.

It's true, you can't know until you get there. What losing all that weight for Jo (my SD) has meant is that she has an absolute determination never to go back there, never to put it back on. So, it really has to be a long-term commitment, not only to get there but to stay there.

There really has to be something done, we really have got an obesity 'epidemic'. You only have to go out into any public place, any shopping-centre, especially on a warm day when people are wearing thin tops, to see it. Every time I go into town I see the bellies wobbling towards me, and I mean even young girls.

I'm affording the Dukan Diet because I'm paying for it over 3 months on my credit card. If it works it will be money well spent. Exercising e.g. buying an exercise bike, wouldn't be any use. I wouldn't be able to use it. At present I go to 50+ stretch and tone Mondays, 50+ aqua-aerobics Tuesdays and when term re-starts I'll go to chair-based stretch and tone in the next village. That's just about it, I'm afraid. I gave up on swimming lessons - couldn't conquer the fear and panic - but I may give it another go when term re-starts in a couple of weeks.

    inflammation causes heavy water retention

often switching over to a healthy natural diet takes a couple of weeks for the digestive tract to adjust (it suddenly has to do some work :p)

ohh a new measure of obeseness based on the !!!!!!!! BMI system /sigh

25% of the population are overweight, big deal those 25% live longer than everyone else :)

If you are worried about what you should weigh and don't want to take any notice of tables and charts guessing what you should weigh, do what i did, pay £30 to get yourself in a bodpod, you will know exactly what you should weigh then

OK, Eric. I'll happily pay £30 for this. Where do I find a bodpod?

By the way, Dukan doesn't mention BMI. He says 'what did you weigh at your heaviest and what did you weigh at your lightest?' That's how he works out what he calls your 'true weight'.
