    Hi Lolly,

No I don't think you are missing out at all. I am just a bit lazy and find it easier to use the computer really.

Also as I think I tend to eat lots of similar meals - so I use the 'create meal' function - weigh and measure the ingredients the first time and add it to 'my favourite meals'. Then I don 't have to work it out again. It also allows you to play around with ingredients a bit to find lower carb options.

As a bit of a nerd I also like the graph ;) I know that even if I go over my cals as long as I can keep them below my energy expenditure I will be losing weight.

I have completed lots of food diaries in the past for ww / sw, but always found them a chore. I don't with Food Focus - probably because I waste a good chunk of my life on the computer. :o

    Hi Jess,

The 'my favourite meals' bit does sound quite handy, I do something similar with DS1's food - he's become really fussy lately so only eats a few different meals - I've got the carbs jotted down for them all so all I have to do is weigh out the same portions each time.

I'm not even supposed to be calorie counting at the mo as I've gone for the 'healthy eating approach', but I can't help myself! Even if I don't write it down, I still end up working it out in my head throughout the day :o - old habits die hard, lol!

Oh, and if you want to find lower carb options, there's a great book called the 'Calorie, Carb, and Fat Bible'. They update it and bring a new one out each year and it contains the nutritional info of almost every single food that you can find in the supermarkets.
It's really handy to look through the lists to find the lowest carb options of each food, rather than looking on the back of every single packet... in every single supermarket!!! (as I have done in the past, lol!)

I use mine quite a lot for fruit and veg as there isn't always info on the packets - and even when there is, it can sometimes be really inaccurate!

Bought Total Authentic Greek Yoghurt (No added sugars No added additives Luxuriously Thick & Creamy) 500g @ £2 from Morrisons this morning. I saw the 0% fat one but took this one as it did not specify. Anyway, it tastes exactly like the Lidl one so I had to add honey to it. I give up :rotfl::rotfl:

Hope you have a lovely day at the picnic MargaretClare. I really admire you as I know I would succumb to all the homemade goodies.

One bit of advice that I thought was useful in the 'Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet' book, was to avoid telling people you are on a diet. This avoids all of the ' Why are you on a diet' and 'One bit won't hurt you' comments that often wear away at our resolve.

    Jess

Thanks, Jess. Yes, I really do my best to avoid any explanations of why, but as it turned out, no one made any comments at all. People just don't want to know - either they feel threatened because they know they should do something, or they just think 'hey ho, here we go again' and you can see their eyes glaze over.

It was supposed to be 'bring and share' but in fact, a lot of people ate their own. A lot was offered around and a polite 'no thank you' goes a long way. Not all home-made goodies - that only happened in the Shetlands!! - a lot of packs of e.g. sausage rolls, treacle tarts, Jaffacakes etc. One or two of the old people ended up taking some home with them - 'it will do for your tea then you don't have to bother'.

We had a very pleasant picnic at tables under the trees, then as soon as we'd gone into church for the afternoon service, the heavens opened!

One thing with Dukan that acts as a deterrent. You have to fill in your daily report including daily weight but also, if you've slipped up and with what. It's a bit like going to confession. A real brake on 'oh a mouthful of that won't hurt'. I don't want to have to 'fess up tomorrow morning!!

  • Hi everyone :j

Low carbers - I need your help! I made soup today and I really don't know if it's any good for low carb or not.

    Serves 5

40g Marigold stock (29.4g of carbs in 100g)
    1 tsp mixed herbs
    a goodly amount of pepper
    2 medium onions
    2 medium leeks
    3 celery sticks
    250g carrots
200g mixed beans (pinto, cannellini and haricot)
    2.5 litres water

I keep getting mixed messages about carrots - people seem divided about whether they're ok for low carb diets or not :(

    What do you think?

I know the stock would be better if it was homemade, but we don't tend to eat whole chickens, we buy bits and pieces instead.
  • Good afternoon to all the super slimmers! I've been on holiday, only gained 1.5lbs so will soon be back on the straight and narrow. I have a lot of reading to do to catch up with everyone's news on the thread!
