Using Foodfocus site, thanks Jess444 for the suggestion, but it recommends I need to eat 1417 Kcal a day to lose at 2lbs a week which is alright now however when I get to a lower weight that will diminish to less than 1200 Kcal which will be less than I can achieve. Still once down to my fighting weight I should be fine on 2000 Kcal for maintenance.

My recommended calories for 2lb a week has also just reduced on Food Focus as I have lost weight. I have decided to change my goal to 1.5 lb a week to keep my cals the same. I am happy to take a bit longer as I know I would not manage on a lower calorie intake. However, I am trying to reduce my carb intake and Food Focus is really useful for this. I aim to keep my carbs below 100 gms a day - but tbh it is usually more like 130 - 150 gms. Still, it seems to be working so I am not worrying too much.

I am expecting a weight gain tommorrow as I have just been out to tea at DD's and they had bought in a Chinese. Ate less than I normally would but Chinese always makes me gain weight.

I could be wrong but I thought the cal count that FoodFocus gives is net - so if you burn off 300 cals exercising you can eat 300 more and maintain the weight loss rate?

Thats right Angry Bear - I always make sure I eat at least half of the cals I burn through excercise. It gives me a bit of an incentive to excercise more.

    Hey Everyone,

I managed another EA sports session tonight, 1 hr and 500 odd cals later I'm feeling wide awake! Really need to try and wind down as I want to try and catch up on my sleep a bit before we go away.

RE Food focus, and all of the other food logging sites - from what I've seen of them, I find them more hassle than they're worth. I've got to do a food diary for a week for a survey site and I find it a huge inconvenience (only doing it as they're paying me! :money:), and I don't even have to give them portion sizes, just food types.
What benefits do you all get from doing them? I just have a notepad in the kitchen and jot down the food and cals (or carbs, or whatever I'm doing at the time), and tot it up as I go along, which takes no time at all - but am I missing out by just doing this rather than using a specialised website?

I've only really tested it out to see what ballpark area I should be looking at to keep a steady weight loss. I generally cook from scratch and trying to work out the calories is too painful to be honest (who really wants to start looking up 3 cloves of garlic, six chillies, 10 pieces baby sweetcorn ...., and that's before you look at changing the recipe as you cook).

Then again, what I eat in my main meals isn't my problem - it's all the stuff I (used to) snack on in between.

It's 4 weeks today since I started the Dukan Diet. I'm now down to 70.3 kg which is 2 kg less than I started with. That's 4 pounds and six-and-a-bit ounces.

DH isn't doing the same thing, but he's certainly eating a lot less carbs and a fair bit more protein than he used to. He's gone down from 101.8 kg on Thursday to 101.2 kg today. Weight loss is a lot more difficult for him because he's an insulin-using Type II diabetic.

This lunchtime we're going to a picnic organised by our church minister, a get-together for her 3 churches. There will be a bring-and-share picnic. The kinds of things on offer will be rice dishes, pasta salads, quiches, the inevitable sandwiches, and not a thing there that I can eat. So, we'll call at Waitrose on the way there and I'll get a cooked chicken and some salads. Just in the interests of having something there that I can eat, and all that lovingly-prepared food, not a thing.

It's impossible to explain. On the one hand you get 'oh you can't lose weight at your age' and on the other hand 'why on earth do you want to diet'. A young woman from church is doing the Cambridge Diet sole source phase, and she can't even eat chicken and salad.

    Hi Lolly,

No I don't think you are missing out at all. I am just a bit lazy and find it easier to use the computer really.

Also as I think I tend to eat lots of similar meals - so I use the 'create meal' function - weigh and measure the ingredients the first time and add it to 'my favourite meals'. Then I don 't have to work it out again. It also allows you to play around with ingredients a bit to find lower carb options.

As a bit of a nerd I also like the graph ;) I know that even if I go over my cals as long as I can keep them below my energy expenditure I will be losing weight.

I have completed lots of food diaries in the past for ww / sw, but always found them a chore. I don't with Food Focus - probably because I waste a good chunk of my life on the computer. :o

Hope you have a lovely day at the picnic MargaretClare. I really admire you as I know I would sucumb to all the homemade goodies.

One bit of advice that I thought was useful in the 'Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet' book, was to avoid telling people you are on a diet. This avoids all of the ' Why are you on a diet' and 'One bit won't hurt you' comments that often wear away at our resolve.

Finished the first introductory week of TurboFire :D

Verdict: Not as intense and suicidal as Insanity but a workout nonetheless. It's much easier on the ol' knees :rotfl:I'm enjoying it so far :j But this is just the introductory week so maybe it'll pick up it's intensity as the weeks go by :D

    Core 20
    Stretch 40
(I thought they'd mixed it the wrong way round as surely it should be core 40 and stretch 20 but the balance was perfect. The core exercise was done with the resistance band. Ouch!! My abs were worked to the max :j. I welcomed the 40minutes stretch afterwards. Was a bit like pilates as we also used the resistance band)
    Total: 1 hour

Then went to the gym for aerobics: 1 hour

    Overall total: 2 hours :j :T
