Just to let everyone know. I am absolutely delighted that the Dukan Diet IS actually working for me.

It is NOT a quick fix. I think the recent DM article was a bit misleading - do it for your holidays etc. I did get the link for the website from one of the DM articles but that's the only thing I gleaned. I've had to investigate it further and do it properly.

I've been trying to lose weight for sooooo long, with some success but not a lot. All I get from the medical profession is 'you must lose weight' but not a scrap of help to do it. It's assumed that I should know. Even a recent referral to a NHS dietitian didn't help. She went through 3 days of typical food diary and couldn't see what I was doing wrong.

I have suspected for a long time that it was the spikes of insulin when eating anything sweet e.g a banana, and no, I'm not a diabetic - yet. I don't want to become one! It's a fact that the pancreas does get a bit 'tired' as you get older, maybe that's why I hear so often 'oh you can't lose weight at your age'. The medics don't say that, but equally, they don't give much help!

4 weeks ago tomorrow I started doing the Dukan Diet and I can do it. Not a problem at all, and the weight is coming down sloooowly. I hope to get to 70.3 kg tomorrow and that will be 2 kg in 4 weeks (70.4 kg today). We haven't had a potato in the house for at least 3 weeks, DH ate the last one and hasn't bought any more. He's doing similar, eating a lot less carbs which means he's giving himself less insulin which means his weight is gradually coming down!

What I like about it is: it's not open-ended. I can see an end to the second phase which I'm on at present - the middle of October. By then I should be down to 60 kg. Waay above any of the BMI calculations but I'll be happy with that. And a lot of re-education about what I can/can't eat.

Well done :T:T:T Wish I can find some such thing to help with my belly (sigh) :)

I know it'll go down the more weight I lose but I don't want to be underweight and I'm happy with my weight now of 9½stones :D and since we can't spot-reduce, I'm stuck

  • Hey all,

FS Can you log 2 hr for me please?

It's been a busy few days? Spent Weds looking for a dress for my friends wedding (I always do this at the last minute!) and the wedding was yesterday - such a great day, but I'm feeling a bit worse for wear this afternoon! No energy or will to exercise in this state, so I'll get back on it tomorrow.

Haven't got many days to finish this challenge!

    Hey all,

FS Please log me 30 mins Couch to 5K run 3 week 5, wow quite a leap from 2 x 8 minutes runs to 1 x 20 minute run pretty much finished on pure determination.

Calorie controlled diet working for me mainly because my OCD kicks in when I get hungry and I count to the nearest 1 kcal nothing is going to stop me, well maybe diminishing returns.

Using Foodfocus site, thanks Jess444 for the suggestion, but it recommends I need to eat 1417 Kcal a day to lose at 2lbs a week which is alright now however when I get to a lower weight that will diminish to less than 1200 Kcal which will be less than I can achieve. Still once down to my fighting weight I should be fine on 2000 Kcal for maintenance.

I could be wrong but I thought the cal count that FoodFocus gives is net - so if you burn off 300 cals exercising you can eat 300 more and maintain the weight loss rate?
