  • Well, I managed to lose 3.2lbs this week - I'm pretty sure that'll all be back on plus more by next weight in, once all the bad eating catches up with me :rotfl:

There is such a thing as a 'sugar addiction' or addiction to sweet things. You might find that, as jess444 suggested, cutting back severely on the carbs may help. Cutting back/cutting out anything containing refined flour, white sugar etc may also help. What some people also do is to go through their cupboards and throw out everything and anything that may be bad for them. Cakes, biscuits, crisps, sweets of all kinds, sweet drinks, ice-cream - get rid. Eat natural foods cooked at home. No takeaways, no ready-meals. Mostly these have a long list of ingredients, additives etc and the fewer of these there are the better. If you can't pronounce it and don't know what it does, then don't put it into your body!

I've been doing the Dukan Diet since the end of July and in that time I've lost a stone, my BMI is now only just in the 'obese' category and I now wear size 14. This starts with protein only and then protein-with-veg. I'm on the third stage now, where I'm allowed 2 slices of wholemeal bread and one piece of fruit daily. I haven't eaten a potato since end of July. Nothing wrong with potatoes as such - it's what is done with them that matters: once you've peeled them you've thrown away the most nutritious part, and then what do you do? Cut them into strips and fry them? Not good.

DH and I have just been to Waitrose and bought a cooked organic chicken, we had broccoli with it and we shared an orange. There's enough cold chicken left for another meal, and I've made sugar-free raspberry jelly with fresh raspberries - we'll have that at tea-time with half-fat creme fraiche (we had that on Christmas Day instead of Christmas pudding!) We had a fried egg on wholemeal bread for breakfast. Our local baker bakes fresh every night and there are NO additives in his bread! If you get there early you get some, otherwise he sells out. Mushrooms on wholemeal bread are very nice.

Just a few ideas for you.
Thx again Maggie? Mags? Marg? :D

This does sound like a possible solution for me but how long do you stay on the protein only bit before you can have veg?
Can you have nuts, seeds and pulses for protein too?
I think I might have a carb addiction coz I felt fab when I was on the Atkins years ago but couldn't stick to it for more than a week but I wasn't so overweight then...

    Here's this weeks chart:

Congrats to our SoTW, SoTM and our second SoTY World_of_tights :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Well done to our losers and STSers this week - commiserations to our gainers - don't worry about it and I'm sure it will come off once you start eating normally again.

Well done to everyone who tried to lose 5lb this month. If you wish to join in the 5lb challenge for next month please post below so I can add it to the chart for you.

Here's the final chart for this months Santa's Travel exercise challenge:

    28DecSantaTravels.jpg

Congrats to everyone who took part in this and/or the advent calendar challenge this month.

Next month we'll be climbing Everest - a height of 8850 metres or 29,035 feet. If you wish to change this to a distance challenge if you are unable to climb it is a distance of 5.5 miles.

If you wish to join in the exercise challenge please let me know if you are doing a climbing or distance challenge (please do one or the other and not a mixture) and if you want to do more than 1 climb/equivalent distance let me know how many you are aiming for. If you are climbing I will also need to know the height of your flight of stairs so if you post the number of flights you have climbed I can calculate the height.

Here's the final chart for the Christmas team challenge:

    28DecChristmasTeams-1.jpg

Congrats to this months winners the Snowmen/women team :T:T:T

Next months team challenge will be Ireland/Scotland/England/Wales. Please let me know which team you wish to be part of and I will contact you if I need your starting weight.

This weeks quote is from Thomas D. Willhite
"No one controls your mind but you…no one can prevent you from formulating your definite main goal…no one can halt your planning for the accomplishment of that goal..no one can stop you from becoming enthusiastic about those plans."

If you're interested in finding out more - you said you were doing research - have a look at Dr Dukan's website: https://www.dukandiet.co.uk

I stayed on the protein-only for 2 days, but I think others, who had more to lose, have been on it for up to 7 days. Then, alternate veg-with-protein and protein-only. No fruit and no bread in that second phase. Bread and fruit starts to be reintroduced in the 3rd, consolidation, phase. I'm in the 3rd phase now and I'm still losing weight, down to 66.1 kg today, that's 10 stone 5 3/4 pounds, BMI 31.

All I can say is, it has worked for me, although a lot more slowly than Dr Dukan predicted. I can't do a lot of the exercise that he talks about - he's very insistent on walking, everyone should walk for at least 20 minutes every day of their lives.
