Tesco self service tills

Some other descrepancies like wrong weight on the packing area do need to be carried out before you can continue scanning. So it's not a bad idea to scan alcohol early on in the transaction rather than at the end.
Thanks for thisI don't go to self serve with alcohol because I know it needs to be cleared by an assistant. My queries are always of the "unexpected item in the bagging area type" but next time I will chance alcohol and just put it through first. When they come to sort the other discrepancies they can OK the booze too

maybe the jobs have been diverted to other areas of the store, i personnally dont know as i dont work for a supermarket, but ive not seen a lack of staff once the self service tills have been in play
A member of staff in Tesco Marks Farm Braintree told me last Christmas that they had made four members of staff redundant to make way for the self service tills.0 -
My personal favourite is when people decide to put a full trolley-load of stuff through the self-service tills. The shop assistants don't bother reminding them that the self service tills are for a couple of items only, which really annoys me.
Honestly, if you enjoy scanning shopping that much, either get a Smoby Shop for your home, or get a job on the checkouts!!!!!
Gah!
As I said above, the first hour of my nearby Tesco biggie you have to self scan any quantity as there are no manned checkouts!0 -
I usually use the ones in co-op when buying my lunch at work. But if you go to the huge sainsburys down the road, you get people putting their weeks shopping through them, or people who have no clue how to use them so it holds up the queue for ages.I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.
Smoke free since Jan 2014If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM.

I was in Sainsburys the other night and the usual 'Unexpected item' came up. Well I was the only person at the self service so thought I would get seen right away.. No. The guy is standing talking away to his mate  So I waited.. And waited for what seemed like 5 mins until his mate said to me ' Are you waiting to get served?' So he came over and I said to him 'You might want to do your job in future rather than talk to your mates' He tried to act like a smart !!! and pretend he didn't hear me so I repeated it. He didn't look amused :rotfl:0

Tesco do let you use your own bag but if it's not a plastic carrier it doesn't like it. I have a more substantial bag and even when I hit the button to say I'm using my own bag it won't register. And some of the SAs look really dubiously into my bag. The other night I avoided the hassle as I only had 3 items...I put them directly onto the bagging area, not in any bag, paid OK then picked them up to put in my bag to carry them. At that point a young SA appeared as if from nowhere to ask why I was bagging things without scanning them first. Can't win!!0

I often use the ss tills in Sainsburys but avoid them in Tesco as they never give out till spits0

Self-service may be shooting supermarkets in the foot... I work with Uni students and the poorer ones all tell me that they buy expensive loose spuds and put them through the self-service tills as cheap ones, buy expensive apples and put them through as cheap ones, etc.
One chap calculated that he was "saving" about £20 per month doing this (that must be a lot of fruit and veg...)
Oh, and in Tesco if you want any green clubcard points then the staff are reluctant to give them out, so go to the self-service and do it yourself.0 -

They should be careful Tesco aren't daft and are aware of such scams. Is it really worth risking a trip to the police station for? The self service checkouts all have high definition cameras and if they are scanning clubcards they are leaving all their personal details behind them anyway.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
Bought alcohol on the self service till and obviously you have to wait for a member of staff to come along and "clear it", I remember being stood for about 15mins waiting for a member of staff who was too busy talking to his work mates and disappearing to go do something else. Terrible service, who'd have a self service till would be like that?0
