Tesco self service tills

Poor sales assistant probably running around like a headless chicken!!!
And whose fault is that?
The customer who is simply trying to do some shopping or the supermarket chain who either don't have their self service checkouts working correctly or don't have enough staff to oversee them despite making profits in excess of £3.8 Billion last year. (over £10,000,000 per day).
Some of these tills are designed for trollies which is why they have a very big space for you to put scanned items, and for the ones that are for baskets only, why no signs informing customers of this?self service tills are for a couple of items only,0 -

If a till was busy and you were 5th in the queue you wouldn't complain. Therefore I don't see why you should complain if there are people ahead of you in a queue waiting for the shop assistant. I imagine you just leaving your shopping there was appreciated by the next person in the queue to use the self service till. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. That's the thing apart from Xmas there is never more than 1 person in a queue in front of you at a manned till, but they usually have massive trolley fulls.
I am quite capable of using the self scanned tills but know I need approval for certain items so usually scan them first then continue with rest of shopping hoping that by the time I get to the end that SA appeared to approve.
The "unexpected item in bagging area" or "place item in bagging area" is very annoying. Some items weigh more than the till expects, apparently a problem with 50% + free items if they haven't updated till, or if an item is too light so it doesn't recognise it.
The City Centre store has at least 12 Self scan tills, if not more but only ever put one person on there. Now they have decided to remove carrier bags from these tills the problem is worse as people have to call the SA for a bag!

My personal favourite is when people decide to put a full trolley-load of stuff through the self-service tills. The shop assistants don't bother reminding them that the self service tills are for a couple of items only, which really annoys me.
My local Tesco self service tills are for everyone whether you have a basket or trolley. There is a sign where you place the basket saying "Please place your basket or trolley here".
Are you sure yours isn't the same? Or maybe people who are used to being able to have trolleys are shopping at yours and not realising it isn't the same.
I always use self service whether I have a full trolley or a small basket because it is always quicker.0 -
The better ones are sainsburys then maybe asda, tesco then morrisons. I never had problems with morrisons tills but lately it screams "unexpected item in bagging" at me. I think its tesco tills that wont let you choose an option to use your own bag.0

I hate morrisons self service. They are the only ones you have to push back if you are using more than one bag and it never works properly. All the others you can just line up the bags next to each other. I was at the Tesco one the other day and the dreaded "unexpected item in bagging area" appeared, I looked down and some small child had just sat on the end of the self service till! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Many of the Tesco tills have been upgraded to let you choose your own bag. They have done away with the bigger ones where you could put a trolley load of stuff through though. I never found the self-service ones quicker if you had a trolley full as you are slowed down with packing but if I had my DD with me then we would whizz through with one scanning and one packing.
Morrisons, only used once and never again. Horrendous. Asda I love because you can do cash back as well.

I wish - they used to have the trolley/basket ones with the conveyor belt, but they've all been swapped for basket only ones. It wouldn't be so bad if you had to take some kind of test to be allowed to use them. The number of times I've had to wait for ages whilst people either try and swipe bananas instead of weighing them or attempt to scan a product with the barcode facing them. I despair!0 -

It only takes 2 tills with problems and it starts grinding to a halt.
It should be a maximum of six self sevice checkout to one operator. The other four would be closed if there was only one operator.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0
