Tesco self service tills

Staff actively encourage you to use these tills because they will be quicker than waiting for a staffed till but they only ever have one person covering them to sort out problems and issue carrier bags!

Tonight was quiet but the manned tills busy so off I went to self service with my 10 items. Firstly no carrier bags, secondly I needed approval for my alcohol 5 people with flashing red lights resorted to calling the assistant plus those waiting for a carrier. The SA was was curt to say the least as "I'm dealing with something". I got fed up of waiting and left my scanned items on the checkout and walked out.

I've done similar occasionally. I despise them, they work sometimes but I am utterly sick of the repetitive whine of 'unexpected item in bagging area'. I really feel sorry for the people who have to work there and hear it incessantly.

Self service tills should be fine if you know how to use them

I find them a lot quicker than a manned checkout if I'm only buying a few things, never had any major problems.

In your case it actually sounds like the member of staff was the problem, not the self-scan machines!

My nearby biggie Tesco doesn't open the manned tills for the first hour so I had to put through a trolley of good myself via self service tills recently.

I thought I'd have a whole heap of trouble but not any worry apart from forgetting to scan some goods on the childs seat, but I did a second transaction without any trouble.

I didn't even have to get the coupon verified.

Morrisons are too sensitive and always get a bagging error like I've whipped something!!!!

Well thats the whole point of them, to reduce staff and ease people with only a few items quicker through the checkout. If they had one person manning one self checkout it wouldn't be a self checkout now would it! lol.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

But 1 person to cover 10 self service tills (in my local Tesco) is cutting manning levels too fine.
It only takes 2 tills with problems and it starts grinding to a halt.

They do my head in as they always mess up and cannot read barcodes when I use them,

It's not rocket science, pretty sure you could've waited a little longer! Poor sales assistant probably running around like a headless chicken!!!

there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

My personal favourite is when people decide to put a full trolley-load of stuff through the self-service tills. The shop assistants don't bother reminding them that the self service tills are for a couple of items only, which really annoys me.

Honestly, if you enjoy scanning shopping that much, either get a Smoby Shop for your home, or get a job on the checkouts!!!!!

    Gah!
