  • Well I worked 7.15am until 6.30pm so during the mundane office work I was flicking onto this thread and was wishing I could add my comments.

OP please don't worry about it - I am a coupon user and with the problems I had at my local store if they could have done what the letter is asking you to do, believe me they would have done it !! I get followed around the store and all sorts.

Interesting seeing the address etc of the letter I know a few friends who work in that particular Tescos so I can make a few enquiries without raising suspicion.

I think it is a wind up - has anyone tried just phoning the store and asking for that person ? surely if no knowledge of that person existing then the matter is indeed a practical joke which isn't very funny.

You have nothing to worry about, I agree that this is definitely a panicking manager. I suspect that they should definitely have not been able to obtain your details.

I work for a high street retailer and we had an incident where a customers credit card was not accepted, but the cashier did not realise and processed the sale as normal. The customer noticed (presumably) and returned later in the day to be served by the same person.

We're a fairly small shop so lost quite a bit of money, she had used a clubcard (similar to tescos) so headoffice told me I could contact the club card company and they could write to ask if she would come in and pay. They were not allowed to give me her details, the letter had to come from them, and she was not legally obliged to pay as it was our fault. I dont see why it would be any different for you.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

I agree with most of the other posts - don't worry - it's their mess. Has anyone actually tried telephoning the Ystrad Mynach store yet and asking for Susan Rees??!! If anyone is tempted, the number appears to be 0845 6779752!!

If she does exist, things aren't really going that well for her.... firstly not training staff properly.... then getting a large bill from the coupons......then possibly breaching the Data Protection Act.... and finally sending a letter without using the headed paper!! Oh dear........

    OKAY EVERYBODY....

It is quite clear that this is a hoax - probably by RICKSHAW herself.

The entire post is a windup - probably by some Tesco employee or other MSE 'member' who perceives some injustice in coupon use and wants to frighten people.

I don't buy the story at all - Rickshaw could even be some internet troll who simnply wants to create and take part in some long thread for his/ her own egotistical reasons. How many posts had Rickshaw ever made on this site before this biggie??

The spelling and grammar in the letter is rather bad and is in no way a genuine letter from Tesco - that much is certain...

    DON@T FEED THE TROLLS!
  • My bf worked on CS for a couple of years and here are his thoughts......

Firstly, was there anything with a headed address with the plain letter like a compliments slip? We always had to put one in if the letter wasn't on headed paper.

Dont know the store but they wouldn't necessarily put a postcode.

As I know it the coupon policy I have always followed is that you are allowed to use one more coupon for the product you are buying eg if you are buying one bottle of flash you can use 2 flash coupons, if you are not buying the flash then only 1 coupon is allowed to be used. However this does not include newspaper coupons as the product must be bought to redeem the coupon.
The only other supermarket coupons that tesco would accept are Sainsbury and Asda coupons stating £5 off a £30 shop. No individual product coupons with a specific supermarket stated.

The data from the clubcard would only be accessible at the CS desk, on the computer system which most stores have now. This is used when processing an electrical refund so that there is less to fill in (as like in other shops you normally have to fill in some sort of details postcode, house number, etc when returning something and receiving money back). This information would also be used if a clubcard was left behind as it would be swiped for an address and would then be posted back to the customer, but would include a compliments slip.

Pre-computer system, whenever contacting clubcard, they had to contact the customer whereas now the information is available to customer service staff and managers. I am unsure whether sending you a letter like this would be acceptable by customer service Head Office (0800 50 55 55-I think if I remember rightly).

My mum is a Customer Services Manager and I am going to check this with her so I will come back to you.

I hope these words help a little bit.
