The bank can make "other arrangements" with the Post Office0 -

Why would a BANK ring up a POST OFFICE to ask if they would cash for a customer?
It just would not happen would it? The bank would cash the money for them or have I missed something.
Alliance and Leicester business customers can carry out business transactions using their card and pin at any post office branch
However because of the size of the withdrawal the OP required, we were contacted by the A&L to ensure we had sufficient funds to meet this request. Once we agreed that we could they then increased the withdrawal limit on the OPs card to allow him to make the withdrawal from his A&L account in our branch using his PIN. He presumably was then contacted by them to let him know he could make the withdrawal from our branch. Had we not had the funds the to meet the request the A&L would have called another local post office.Tayyibah0 -

indeed - however The bank can make "other arrangements" with the Post Office for other types of customerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Having said that, the post office owners (KAMRAY) have been MSE members for a few years, since July 2004.
Maybe the account has been hijacked?
Very fishy, and I'm not referring to the contents of Baldrick's apple crumble ....
The chances of us finding this thread was unlikely and I feel we were EXTREMELY lucky in doing so. I had only decided to try and google for some info regarding the situation we had found ourselves in after the OP failed to show up to view the CCTV at COB on the Tuesday evening. The OP had only started the thread a few hours earlier. Had I searched for this info before I did, I believe I would still be £990 short.
Believe me, my hubby and I were absolutely fuming, especially as my hubby had been in contact with him that day and the day before and he was adamant that he had not received an overpayment. But we were 100% sure that the OP was our man and that he was referring to our particular branch. After all the amount of the overpayment was exactly the same. The A&L had mentioned that the withdrawal was for for the OPs staff wages. He had used the term "wee" which is predominately a glaswegian term for small (our Post office and the OPs business are both based in Glasgow). Also the OP, in trying to justify why he should hold on to the cash, had mentioned a problem with the foreign exchange rate board at our branch. A month ago we had been experiencing problems with the computerised rate board in our window which has been faulty and was not updating in line with the post office computer systems.
That evening we checked the thread several times and were really tempted to let the OP know he had been nabbed. However we foolishly believed that he may take notice of the replies left by other MSE users and have a change of heart by the morning.
However the next day he was adamant he had not checked the cash and claimed the staff member he had handed it to was even more adamant there was no overpayment. Therefore even if the CCTV showed he had been handed it we had no proof that he actually had it?
It was only then that we let him know that we knew about the thread and almost immediately, while hubby was talking to him on the phone his OPs red light turned green, but he still continued to deny everything.
It may seem fishy, but I can assure you the events of the last week or so are completely true and this thread has been no wind up.Tayyibah0 -

Actually Alliance and Leicester/Santander business customers can use the PO to deposit and withdraw cash. For large withdrawals Santander will phone up to OK it.
The thread seems legit to me.0 -
The thred seems legit to me but the OP has shot himself in the foot by asking us if he should or shouldnt return the money when according to Kamray he denied having the extra money then blamed it on someone else.0

I think you should name and shame then.
At the very least, bar him from your shop!0 -

I would also guess that the money will come out of the person who runs the PO and not the actually Royal Mail themselves.0 -
I hope the cashier has been dealt with, As without their error none of this would have happend.0
