I'm not saying that I wouldn't have given it back but what about...
"Please check your change as discrepancies cannot be dealt with later" etc Does this not work both ways?
If the OP had found out he was short once back at the office would the PO have been quick to give him the missing money?
It's only a game

Yes it works both ways. We would have balanced the till that evening and checked the CCTV. Once found we then contact the customer involved.Tayyibah0 -
Good for you!
You may be in the minority though, especially if the sum involved was much smaller.

How dare he pay £10 short? Who the hell does the OP think he is? I agree with the above, phone the police and get it back!2013 NSD challenge 3/100

£10 is £10 at the end of the day. It may not seem alot of money to him but to a poor pensioner, or a struggling single mom, it is a small fortune. What a cheeky s od.life is what you make it, make it fun !0

Had the money been returned as soon as the overpayment was discovered a £10 deduction for the inconvenience of having to come in to return the overpayment may not have been unreasonable. Under the circumstances, however, he should have paid the Post Office a penal rate of interest and admin charges for the "loan" .0

boy would i hate to work for the OP. can you imagine him in the office?? everyone gets blamed for everything he does.
i would get the 'office lady' who 'admitted to stealing it and was sacked', to give the police a statement.0
